Part of my inspiratrion for my own 56 Chevy creation was the Aussie Holden Utes. You can find several Chevy versions from the 30's and 40's that look like the original American car but their 56 Ute did not look like the American version of a 56 Chevy. This year at the Woodward Cruise three gentlemen from Australia who work for GM Holden paid me some nice compliments.
I also met a gentleman named Bob Haas who had a home built version of a 1955 Ford Ranchero.

  3. Moefuzz.......that 41 Dodge Ute is an Oz 1941 Dodge, they used 41 Plymouth front sheet metal, 41 Dodge grille, 41 plymouth hood & headlight surrounds.......also note that as it has the roof hatch and fold out front windscreen that its an ex oz army car.........don't suppose that pic was taken yesterday in your backyard?.......lol........andyd

I always thought Utes were cool and wondered why they weren't made here in the US untill the late 50's.

This is a rare 41 Plymouth (I think) and in standard trim is rare so you can imagine how hard it would be to find in a Ute

  7. I'll admit had to google this one. I saw one years ago but dismissed it as a cool custom...wow. I found a little story on one at www.cruisenewsonline.com
This was the precurser to the Ranchero. Very interesting...thanks for posting.

The pic has got to be 5 or 6 years old at the very least, it was posted into a thread that pigoinks started on the ozrodders forum 6 or so years back. I can't remember who posted the pics but I do think that it was 'recent' when originally posted.

Thanks for the additional info regarding the 41's heritage. When I was sorting thru my various folders yesterday and I came across that shot the first thing I could think of is it may have been a military hatch up top.

But I'm sure that once the war was over it became a handy dingo hatch.
