Broderick Crawford was such a sloppy drunk that by the end of the show, any scenes where he spoke had to be shot before noon.

The director managed to work around his problem for several years but Crawford only got worse. Top management did not want to cancel or change a popular show. When the situation became impossible the director made up a reel of film showing Crawford stumbling, slurring words, falling down, and starting meaningless arguments. Typical stupid drunk ass behavior. Then they saw what they were up against. The show ended because of Crawford's alcoholism.

I loved that show as a young kid. Speaking of all the trash everywhere, we need another moving commercial shaming us all about littering. That first one worked for several years but everywhere I travel now people have gotten lazy and thrown trash everywhere.

Did you spot the Willys Aero at the end of Back to the future II. The Western Union dude was driving one! Can't miss the big W!

Did they have the 1958 season of Highway Patrol? Always thought that Broderick Crawford had to serve his DUI punishment and that season was never filmed. I have however saw the season where he is driving a 59 Chevy!

Heres a good site about the show. I loved this show as a kid. Been awhile since I had read anything on it, but it explains how they shot the season that Crawford had lost his license to a dui. Plus talks about a show he was so trashed on he could hardly walk.

  10. I feel like this is a trick question. Does responding automatically get you on the AARP mailing list:eek:;)

Yes I remember it as well, infact if I'm not mistaken when Crawford died the State HP honored his funeral with a parade and or escort during the funeral.

Yup on the THiS channel, have you seen the one where Clint Eastwood plays the biker ? Looks like he's riding a old flathead HD. There was another one where he (Dan Mathews) took the day off from fighting crime to play golf and they drove these cool looking golf carts with the bags in front but he looked tanked on that one.

They used those big cars because that what the CHP used. There is an issue of Hot rod Magazine, around '59-'60 that compares the Buick, Merc and Dodge for that CHP
