Did Ford make their own pistons in the 1950's and 60's?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Peter Malcolm Jardine, Mar 4, 2012.

  1. Did Ford cast their own pistons, including oversize, in the 50's and 60's, or did they farm that out? Anyone know?

They had suppliers produce those... Like TRW..
My stock pistons in my 5.0L HO engine are forged TRW's....

If memory serves didn't they use Zollner Pistons. He was owner of Basketball team thus name Detroit Pistons. Think he was originally out of Fort Wayne In. My recollection. Maybe some other old farts rememberer is better than mine.

  4. One of the problems with some of the older engines is piston shape, and consequently suppliers just make flat tops instead of pistons with wedges and steps. I was just interested to see if some one like Silvolite made them, and possibly kept patterns. Most of those patterns just got thrown out tho... and the price of 'reproducing' original parts becomes integrated into the word 'custom':D
