  2. That is amazing attention to detail. Cool way to solve a problem...

  3. I use a lot of AN and MS hardware in my projects, but to have exact duplicates like these is great. I'm always blown away by the talent on this board.

I agree, you can always tell a car owned by a machinist or tool maker, they're build with clock work precision.

Holy crap! Stuff like this is why I love this place. Outstanding work, I'm going to need to replace some similar fasteners on my Lincoln, and I was wondering how I was going to make em.

Outstanding job, if you are reproducing an item making them/it exact is how it should be done. I do have a couple of questions though as i'm very detail oriented. Where did you get the nuts, did you make them? Also why no pics of the cages or dies being machined...i feel cheated:cool::)

  11. Good to have a job where these things are floating about like penny candy....

I allowed .002" per side, so with the double bend I had .004" total.

I had a hard time finding the correct nuts to put in the cages, all the local hardware stores and industrial supply stores sell 5/16-18 nuts that are thicker and they have the top corners rounded off. I was going to make them but found the correct style at mc, I bought a box of a 100.
I did not show the machining of the dies because I did not know I was going to use this for a tech post, and as far as machining the cage, there is so much coolant flooding the part you could not see anything.

Hats off for a job well done. I love seeing people with the talent like you reproduce things you can't find off the shelf. Hope you can sell a few and recoup your time & costs while helping out a fellow hobbyist. Nice work!

Thanks for the excellent write up. A lot of potential problems that I was going to run into on my car have been addressed during Tech Week on the HAMB.

I'll take 24 when you get a chance!

I really like this post. The tool making was impressive. The finished pieces look great and the process was really well documented. Thanks!

Yes, I agree. This is way beyond my skill set and level of patience but it's the kind of detail I really like to see.

I can't describe quality, but I know it when I see it...

    Thanks!
