There are plenty of old school straight axle gassers in the mid west and east coast. The East Coast Gasser assocation have a couple dozen very cool cars running. I have two period correct AA/GS cars that were built to 1967 specs that run 8.80's pretty regular. I'm building a 1965 era steel 40 coupe that will have a blown 392 hemi for the street.

Also in OK, we have the Central States Gasser Assoc. We race every month at Thunder Valley Raceway Park in Noble.

My husband drives a 48 Anglia that on a really good day will turn 10.85 in the 1/4 mile, but usually runs right at 11.0. Then turn around and put the street tires on and cruise to Sonic in it the next day. And see the picture below, he does that pretty regularly too, although not on the way to Sonic!

Seems like the same old thing again. Every time somebody types the word "gasser" in any post, out come the gasser police telling us what a gasser is or isn't. Is there some reason rodders can't just build a car and encourage each other, or enjoy life without the constant off topic bickering about a name.

If you want to see some gassers, check out the York US 30 annual reunion/Beaver Springs nostalgia drags in eastern PA. It will be July 8 & 9 at York fairgrounds for the show, and at Beaver Springs dragway on July 9 & 10 this year. I went last year for the first time, and wow, what a great time. Not sure how to link some pics from last year but will try to.

Hey Knas, have you seen that 53 olds run down the track yet? If so how does she do? I've got a 52 and would have never thought of turning it into a gasser although i REALLY want to build one, but i'll probly start my next (gasser) project with ranchero , falcon or an econoline turck. Or i know a place that has a Crosley Wagon just sitting in the weeds.

  22. <<<<<< This one did hotrod drag week last year driving over 1400 miles at 70 mph getting 12 mpg pulling a trailer and ran a best of 11.68. The engine was built less than a week before doing DW and has since ran an 11.53 with more to come. If my math is correct, it would be classed as A/GS in 63/64. Can I call mine a "gasser"?

Here's a couple of photos of my dare I say it, 55 gasser style hardtop. on the trailer going to Laughlin for a tri-five chevy show. I do drive it on the street regularly. Built it for fun. It's great for the Sonic drive in and I can drive it out to the Speed way and click off some mid twelve times. Just added a 250 shot of nos. still tuning but hope to get into the mid elevens. Straight axle out of a 1950 chevy pickup. built my own 2x4 front frame rails. Installed a 454 .060 over. low compression motor. old school closed chamber hears ls6 I believe. Weiwand tunnelram with Edelbrock 600 cfm carbs. Comp cam. turbo 400 w 3000 rpmstall. Aeromotive elec fuel pump and regulator. Tried to stay old school as much as possible and still be safe on the street. People love it. Hope you do to. Took about 20 months to get her shape back after being totaled by a drunk driver. Yruhot.............Doug. ps love spankin the inports at the drags. I'm usually the only old school car out there.lol
