Hey guys, just curious if someone could clarify if a 53 Pontiac chassis is the same as an early 50's Chevy?Sorry if that's a dumb question.
I'm looking at buying a 51' style line and it comes with a rolling Pontiac chassis, so I was curious how easy of a body swap it would be, and since I live in Canada it's more than likely a canadian chassis.
American Pontiac's are way tougher, and a little bigger than the Chevy's. I don't know much about the Canadian ones. Just bring a tape measurer
All I can suggest is find out if the Pontiac is Canadian. If not, then the Chevy wont bolt on and some fabrication will be necessary.
If it's a 115" wheelbase, torque tube rear, top-hat style frame rails with K-shaped crossmember at the cowl, then it's more or less the same. 53-54 Chevy chassis differ somewhat from 49-52. Canadian Pontiacs can be pretty confusing because some years American style ones were imported and sold along side the Canadian made ones that were more or less a Chevy in drag.
I think the only American Pontiacs imported by GM were some straight eight models, and possibly certain performance models like GTO and Trans Am. Any others were privately imported.
