You must have a different understanding of the word clone than I do. They are similar looking if you squint your eyes REALLY, REALLY HARD. Richard D had it best with the word "tribute".

Ah, I understand your point. The builder calls it a "clone", I think only in the sense that he wants to make clear this is a copy, replica or as you say "tribute" to another car and not a design of his own making. I don't think he was trying to gain any sort of credibility by calling it that. He just wanted to give credit where credit is due. He is a huge fan of Steve Scott and the original car.

But I see your point and will take greater care in how I reference the car in the future.

  6. A "clone" would be as close to an exact replica as possible. Same engine, wheels, tires, suspension, upholstery, duplicate dimensions of frame and body, etc. The car above has a similar shape body, that's about all. A casual observer or non-car nut may even mistake it for the original, but a 60s show-rod fan? Never.

Here's my "cruckster". Still a work in progress. Has a removable tilt roof and will have a truck-ish bed down the road. It's somewhere between a 3w coupe, a truck, and a roadster, hence the "cruckster" built from scrap... an old gate, a wheelbarrow (see that sweet firewall?), a bed frame, and some parts from a trampoline. Other than welding and cutting supplies, I've only spent $8 for some heavy duty hinges for the roof. These pics are from a few months ago, I've done more work but don't have pics on hand, I'll post more later

Here's one I built for the drags. I started with a '24 Chevy cowl and the top half of a '27 Chevy radiator shell.
It runs 11s w/ an inline six and 2.47:1 gears!

    This thread is toxic.

I just so happen to have a spare '28-'29 cowl sitting in the garage, some other bits and pieces, and I've been thinking a lot about Sam's Roach Rod lately..

Some real cool examples in here.

Starting on mine. Started out as a ruff pile of 31' slant window panels and doors. Building my cab like Dons hot rods on here with 28-29 rpu squared off rear cab section. Did angle the rear portion of the cab to match the window angle. This appears to be a scratch built body but not 100% sure. I love the look of it.
