Must be Zydeco musicians. Button accordian and a washboard. Makes me hungry for some red beans and rice. And some hot sauce!

Don't forget the ocra fried in bacon greaseand the chitlins. If you think I'm joking, don't laugh until you've sought out somebody who can cook 'em them right.

Hey jimi. Now you got me thinking about my Pops. He used to keep an extra large jar of pickled pigs feet in the cupboard up under the kitchen sink. I could always tell if he had a really hard day at work, 'cause he would come home and head right to the pigs feet. He would pull out a large trotter, grab a knife, fork, and some hot sauce, and go to town on his delicacy. Of course, I'd be standing by with the bottle of Rolaids.
BTW, I got to find me some ocra......

This picture, posted awhile back on Shorpy.com, got me started on countless hours of collecting old pictures of gas stations, which led to car dealers, which led to tow trucks, which led to police cars....etc.

The picture was taken in NW North Dakota, in an area that is now booming with oil drilling activity.

Twin6, any idea what kind of car? The top adds nice lines to it, I'm guessing aftermarket?

No idea, but that's the fanciest California top I've seen in a while. In an odd way, made me think of some of the models I built that were based on wild hot rods of the 60's!

If you have any SouthUrn roots;), you just don't question staple food -- and you don't necessicarily call it soul food, either. It's just what was availalable. With little refrigeration in the mid-20th-Century, people were still doing things the OLD ways. Nothing went to waste, because we were God-respecting and didn't throw away his blessings. You tended the pigs, so it would be stupid not to use everything. Since I come from country roots, I'll look up some good stuff on the theme and post it (like head sauss, e.g.). THANKS fer gettin' me all far'ed-up!:D

  15. Pic of my grandma, she died many years before i was born....she was a singer and harmonica-player, sang and played in little clubs in southern Denmark, northern Germany and everywhere, did some Andrew-Sisters-Stuff and other tunes from the late 30's/early 40's.....

all i got of her is this image and an ole tape she recorded to demo her skills at the southwestern-german-broadcast, the envelope its in is stamped in May, 1955..sounds sweet!.. shortly after that she died.. i was born in '69..Grammy, listen to me up there, grammy? sorry for thumbnails, photobucket account won't work for me at the moment...

Marvellous thread, enjoyed every page, pic and comment, lot's of fun and pleasure! I'll stay tuned! Carsten

After all the funning around, you snap me back to reality. Since I'm German, Irish, English and Cherokee, I have my sentimental (Reb/Yankee) side. The photo of your grandmother is just GRAND! Thanks.

I love the HAMB, as it brings everybody together, in membrance of the past.

  23. That's the reason NOT to run the pipes straight out the back on a Station Wagon (or van if the rear windows open). Always out the side behind rear wheels.

  29. We all agree on one thing, this a great thread but there is one thing missing and it probably could not be possible to create. I am referring to the lack of a way to do a quick search for a particular page or entry. I wish I had had the foresight to keep a file. Or is there a way and I am too blind to see it ?
