Hot Rods Would you trade? 32 5 window for 40 Ford

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Louie, Feb 24, 2012.

  1. Consider both cars done in your style, running, driving, finished..which do you picture/prefer yourself to be driving?
Then consider, sacrifices/time spent/dollars spent/etc. made to achieve that end result..which one then, is worth it to you?..Go with that one.

Maybe so ,but it is not done and available to buy right now is it ? And when it is what do you imagine the price will be ? Affordable ? I'd be surprised if it was.

I still say keep the 32 and buy the 40 if you really like it.

Louie, You should sell me the Deuce and go buy a '40 ! Jim

  5. I wouldn't, only because a '32 Ford is my #1 favorite, and a '40 Ford is my #3.

Tough decision, but I really like 5-windows. Check out the new Rodders Journal and check out the '32 Fords that Alan Johnson built. Bitchin......

I'd keep the '32. I'm not a big fan of 'em, but I do like them. The fact that other people would chop off a nut for one, would make me hold onto a '32 anything. Think of the '32 as a security fund. If the shit was to ever hit the fan, you'd have something that could get you money and get it quick.

I do not know how complete your 32 is but it needs a ton of work/money to be drivable. If someone is offering you a near ready to run 40 for it do it before they are committed.
I love 32's but the work to complete your car is awsome to say the least.

    I'd rather have a '40 than a '32 5w. Might be a different story if it were a 3w.

I actually like Model A coupes more than 5w 32s... blasphemy, I know.

So yeah, I'd trade a '32 Dream for a running SBC '40 coupe in a heartbeat.

Hard decision ... I can only tell you what I did :)

I sold this 40 coupe, up and running with a fresh 283/stock driveline ...

So I could BUY THIS !

I do regret selling the 40 and my wife TOLD ME not to sell it
I could have and should have kept the 40 and just bought the 3W.

I say if you want the fourty and its up to par go for it, I traded a bad ass 69 nova for a 56 vw bug that was shit but had some rare parts and got crap for that from my family but it was something i wanted

  13. The only way to know what to do is be honest with yourself about your ability to finish the 32. If you aren't able to finish the 32 then a 40 you could get on the road quick is hard to pass up.

They're re-popping steel 32 5 windows now from at least 2 different companies so you could build one later if you really had to have one.

Generally speaking, a running or nearly running cool car beats a cool project that won't see the light of day for the next 20 years...

  14. I would sell that thing on ebay and buy a nicer 40 than what you are describing.

From what I've seen, your 32 is worth more than a 40 coupe, sell the 32, buy a 40 and have change!

Sounds like the 32 is paid for and just sitting but i assume you ain't got the cash for the 40 but really want something you can jump in and drive, tough call really.I also assume the 40 is everything you would want out of a 40 ,if it isn't then you are not really achieving much as you wont have the money to change it into what you really want, i think we have all been there at one stage or another, just think about what you felt when you got the 32 and why, and if you now think different then the options yours.

p.s I am not a big 32 kinda guy, but i would still keep it over a 40 anyday;)

  18. Never get rid of the 32 !

People are even paying 30-50K for fiberglass kit 32's ----An all steel is a gem and get big bucks and first born in trade!

    39-40 Fords are easily found.

Take my advice avoid 39 Standards -parts are not same as 39-40 Fords

Well, You didn't post a photo of the '40, but swapping a project for a roadworthy car is a plus IMO. The '32 will take you years to finish plus the cash outlay. The '40 Coupe is a great looking car, I think the swap would be a good one if current resale value on both are equal.

If you aren't going to build the 32 put the thing on the market, original 32's are bringing rediculous money. Have enough cash to get a nice 40 and change. It will be hard to find a 32 owner who will tell you to trade . Hard to make a decision when the subjects are the no. 1 and no. 2 most popular Fords built.

So many guys bringing this down to the mighty dollar. What does your heart say? Do you want a hot Rod or an investment? Fuck money. You say you've been looking for a 40, get the 40. In my humble opinion (and that's all it is, my opinion) a 40 is a way better looking car than the much overrated 32. If it is all about the money then by all means keep your shell and either sit and look at it every day as it is an pat yourself on the back for your fine financial acumen, or spend a small fortune on it and park it with all the other 32's when you're done.
    Money, money, money, money………………

I'm a huge 40 fan and even bought mine back less than a year after I sold it. It won't be leaving again! However if it is $$ that are making you decide, then the 32 will always be worth more.
