Like the title says, I've been hiding in the shadows for years without saying a word. I figure it's about time to open my mouth and try to keep my foot out of it as well. I currently have a 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 421 that I'm trying to turn into an old A/FX, B/FX drag racer. Specifically, the early years of the class before they allowed superchargers and modified wheel bases.
Welcome...from the President of the Open Mouth Insert Foot club. Now show some pics of your ride, or prepare to be pummeld...
Does super stock allow nitro? I'm stripping the whole car down to fix the frame and replace the damage done by the last guy who "installed" the roll cage. I get my camera back from my sister Friday. I'm being a good brother and Uncle by selling her kids old toys on Craigslist and Ebay to help pay for new ones. I'll post the pics in the coming week, but she's a little naked
Welcome! Semi-local hamber here from Sycamore. Were the swiss cheese cars just Catalinas for GP also?
Glad to hear from a local. You could get the Swiss Cheese cars in GP's & Bonneville's. Only 4swiss cheese 421 super duty GP's in 1963, the last one seen was lost here in Chicago, IL. I bought my GP back in 2000 when i was looking for a 63 Catalina. Owner said the engine was rebuilt, which it was, but it was a 421 not a 389 like he said. Talk about a nice find for under a $1000. Car was in primer with a gorgeous original interior minus the leopard print. i should find the pics from when i bought it and post. Funny story too, i was replacing a burnt exhaust valve and noticed that all four cylinders were sleeved. Took off the other head to check the other side and all four cylinders were sleeved as well. pulled the whole engine and had it magnifluxed. My engine guy said everything checks out fine and asked me what i was going to do with an engine with 8 stainless steel sleeves in the bore. I told him thats the way i got it. He finished by saying he charges $180 a bore for SS and has only ever done one and it's supposedly an old race only trick that costs more than it's worth. also, not to drive it on the street regularly. News 2 Me. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and listening to my rants!
