Do all our shops look like this?

My shop is soooo extraordinarily bad it defies photography. Two types of folks walk into my shop - those that wonder whether they should actually leave their project with me in this mess, or those that think it is the coolest place on the planet! I'm pretty careful about who gets back there these days! Oh, by the way, What's a snow blower? anything like the opposite of my swamp cooler?

Mine looks a bit like that. My 57 with a few parts off of it getting painted. Harley pushed in the back wall. JD lawn tractor w/plow on it waiting for a big snow. 3 tool box sets. I only have a maze I can walk through. I should be on that "Hoarders" show.

  6. tommy, when did you move into my shop? Yours looks just like mine.

Well my shop is getting cleaner, in fact, when I get this current project done, I think there will be nothing in the shop, as most of the stuff belongs on the project. So with the current project being a bit O/T, any pictures would be O/T as well...so take my word for it:rolleyes::D. I would also mention that the "clutter" is part of my security...if the crooks can't find it, they can't steal it!

  9. geez!! That looks exactly like my garage!! All model a stuff!

My 24 foot enclosed race car trailer is now a storage spot for my '65 vette and misc. parts and junk, I rent a 20 x 20 foot storage unit that houses my '31 5 window coupe project plus misc. parts, engines and junk, and my 2 car garage houses my Harley, two engines, tools and my '39 Olds coupe gasser project with barely enough room to walk around it. A 60 x 100 foot shop would be nice.

I have two bays, "shop/tool cage" area and rough attached shed for compressor, flammable& crap storage and dirtiest work. I try to keep storage off the floor space and welding/ grinding sparks.

Wintertime I clear a bay to keep wife's car out of worst weather and have the space ready for winter vehicle repairs.

It's her house but my garage...

I feel much better now. I figure this will be my last project so there won't be a lot of torn apart stuff anymore. Then I can clean it up and put away anything else. I'm not sure I will be comfortable in a clean shop with nothing torn apart on the work bench.:D I guess I'll just have to deal with it when the time comes. I've always said that when I get too old to work on the real stuff, I'll pull out all my old partially built models and play with them.

I have been comparing my shop to the one's photographed in HotRod Magazine. It's always made me feel somewhat inferior. Now that I've seen your shops, I feel much better about myself.

Mine was semi clean than my kid started working on one of his cars in there and "rearanged" everything. He's since moved out and i've been afraid to go out there yet

I feel your pain....here's my little shit hole. Always a mess and packed. I built a lean-to addition on one side last summer to help "organize", now it's full too. I did move my Honda out...and then put my Harley in so didn't gain squat there. Oh...and my dog lives in there too. I'm not complaininig though, so many guys work outside with no cover at all!!

is it ironic that garage and garbage have the same basic spelling? :D

half of my shop doubles as a wood shop, that's were the real mess happens.

Well, I spent a couple of hours on it yesterday and did get the floor pretty well swept and some things moved around so I could walk in and out.

Buying a bunch of long wanted equipment in the past couple of years hasn't helped the space situation.
The mig, different torch setup, bandsaw, stainless topped workbench and drill press all take up room that I had available before.
I think the bottom junk collector shelves on the sides are going to get moved or removed to gain some side room.

Yep. This year I decided to install a blade on my lawn tractor. So now I have to keep it handy along with the snow thrower, two project cars, a gantry crane, 3 engines with trannys, numerous tool boxes, and blast cabinet. Well you get the picture. I am constantly stumbling over everything. But as they say it's a labor of love.
    YEAH RIGHT.
