after a ten year build, Paul brought his '56 buick for body work, primer and paint. Paul had the paint matched to a sample he found, we did the final fit on the body panels, painted the jams, under hood and trunk lid. he will spend the rest of the winter putting chrome on and working on the upholstery.
a before look can be found in this thread; http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=616517
Pretty colors, and a huge improvement over the before pics, which is about what my '56 looks like right now. I'm personally not a fan of the rally wheels on it though, too late of wheels for that early of a car.
Yeah, nice shade of green! Looking for just about the same hue for my '53 Bel Air, what was the sample he found, any idea?
what i had Paul do, was go to our local benjamin moore house paint supplier and find a color he liked, bought a sample of gloss, rolled it out on a piece sheet metal that was large enough to "see" the color. once he made his choice we sent the sample to my PPG paint supplier and he matched it and made a formula. i bought a small test sample and did a spray out under the trunk lid which Paul approved. if we had to change the color, the test paint would have been used for the first coat so it wouldn't have been wasted.
paint is PPG dcc, and the custom formula is 914595 main layer, ford kiwi green. dmc900 str white-2855.7 dmc919 yellowlf-822.6 dmc929 light red-297.2 dmc908 yellow-297.2 dmc937 green-274.1 dmc902 black-205.5
Looks Great like the colors, car has a great stance. What size wheels and tires are you running on it?
That's always a major point in any build, and a wonderful place to get to! It always signals the end of the build is near!
yes, Paul has been waiting, slowly picking away on the things he could do himself, and saving money for the jobs he needed to farm out. he was trying to choose a color that fit in the 50's yet looked up to date and i think this color does that.
Looks good! It's funny but I hated most of the colors on 50's and early 60's cars when I was a kid. The tan, salmon, mint and steel blue colors were hedious to me. Now I love ALL of that. What the he.. happened to me? Must of grown up somewhere along the way.
what's old is new again, i'm the same way with music, i don't seem to like it till it's a few years old. explain that?
