The Legend of St. Valentine
The catholic church recognises at least 3 saints named valentine all of whom were martyred. According to one legend, Valentine was a roman priest serving the church in 3<SUP>rd</SUP> century. When emperor Claudius II decided that the single men made better soldiers and decided to abolish the marriage for young men. St. Valentine defied the emperor and continued to perform marriages rituals in secret for which he was put to death.
According to another legend, an imprisoned valentine sent a greeting card to himself writing,”From your Valentine”, after he fell in love with a young girl and it is believed that his expression of stating love is still continued today.
Valentine’s Day:- A Day of Romance
From time to time, Poems and special letters are been written in order to depict the feeling of love to the loved ones has made this day a romantic day. It was commonly believed in France and England that this day was the beginning of birds mating season, which added to the idea. Lupercalia, the fertility festival of Romans, was also celebrated during this time. The young roman couples were decided on this day. In 496 AD, Pope Geleasius officialy declared February 14<SUP>th</SUP> St. Valentine’s Day.
