I'm running a 51 Merc, bored .040, block is relieved, ported and polished. Running Evan heads and a tall Weiand with 2 97's. T-5 and not sure on gears probably around 3.70. What is a good street cam? Also I do not want to go to the trouble to run Chevy valves, what is a good aftermarket valve.
HI ... Use a cam with less than 260 deg if you are using it on the street....also dont go over .350 lift if you are using stock heads and adjustable lifters will save you a big head ache.....there is a big selection of cams...just a matter of getting it to suit your needs...Chevy 1.60 valves have the same diameter stems as a Ford....you will have to shim the springs to get proper pressure on the retainers....nothing like the purr of a revved out flattie....Doug
From what I've been told by others here and on Ford Barn. Pete knows cams, Im buying the same cam for my new 286 stroker (Isky 1007B) on his advice.
Schneider offers a full line of flathead cams. Just used a F254 for my flathead roadster. Only just broke in the cam but sounds and pulls pretty good. Good tech support as well...
I just built a '42 Merc and installed a Schneider 260º /.355 lift. Sounds and runs good on the test stand but I don't have the '29 rpu it's going in finished yet so I can't speak to the performance of it. Bob
i have a isky max 1 in a healthy 53 merc engine. it's a pretty mild cam, good for the street. plus it has high lift, good for low end flathead torque.
I'm also running the winfield su-1a in my f1 8rt.... 3x2, Eddelbrock heads and intake, chevy centrifical dist ...it runs soooo goood
