My bad. As found pics of any Holman Moody cars really get my interest and I can't help asking questions about them. I'm a sucker for historical race cars and just have to know their history.

    Congrats John!

Thanks, guys. Everybody knows who I am, I believe, and from the avatar I think I know who Tommy D is now.

I've been much blessed in my life, able to have a career in so many forms of racing where I learned so much. Now I'm learning even more here because of people like C5HM. Thanks again.

Holy cow! John Thanks for the props. But I am just a guy (like you, I think) who loves the good old days of racing. And I especially like the old machinery.

Wish I could see real cars likes these mixing it up again. I'd bet the prospect of trying to muscle one of these brutes around would make wee Danica (aka per Brian France and the talking heads in the hyperbolic motorsports media: The Savior of NASCAR) tinkle in her nomex...

X2. I wonder if any of these are out in a field or in a barn somewhere waiting to be found?

Would anyone know where to find information on a 1940 Ford coupe that was raced as a stock car in West Virgina? The car was called the Flying Zero and was driven by Spivey. Any help appreciated!

Three (and possibly four) of the cars in the pit road shot are known to still exist. The #06 is sitting in my garage. The #1 is in Oklahoma and belongs to Brent Hajek (after sitting in the Joe Weatherly Museum in Darlington for decades) and the #00 is wearing 1963 sheetmetal and painted like Fireball's Southern 500 winner at Lee Holman's new shop. The fourth is a possible authentic #11 car that is kicking around. The rest have likely gone to that great circle track in the sky, sadly.

    IndyBigJohn,

Adding my congratulations too. You and Duane are the best that ever were...and I had the privilege of having both of you as teachers.

    God Bless,

Thank you, JC. You had another guy there in cheeseland that was pretty damn good. Fella by the name of Dick Witt. Duane and I, by the way, became pretty good friends.

Hmm. Boy I know this is really a shot in the dark, but it looks like 1964 at maybe Riverside. That's my guess. The driver? Ned Jarred?

It looks like Riverside in 1964 and if I'm right on those counts, it can only be one man behind the wheel..... Dan Gurney!

Not Riverside (wrong side of the country). Not Gurney. But it was 1964. Here's another clue/shot:

DING; DING; DING; WINNER! In 1964 there was a 250 KM International Sedan support race that was run just before the Sebring 12 hour race. Augie Pabst drove the #06 Holman Moody "house" car to victory in that race over such luminaries as Dan Gurney, Walt Hansgen and Jimmy Clark.

Here's a shot of Pabst blasting past Gurney as he works on his broken tiddler car.

Pabst's Galaxie was H&M Chassis # C4HM-10041. it lead an interesting competition life and is currently under going restoration in a garage just a few feet beyond my back door.
It was found in...ahem...pristine condition after sitting in a field in Wirtz, VA for 40+ years.

I'm sure he is, K9. I remember the comments when he drove the Meister Brau Scarab back in the 60s.
