I have a freind that wants to sell one it is a 409 4 speed car from the factory. It now has a GM crate ls6 454 in it. Said he would sell it either way but the 409 needs work which he will do at his expense. So which way should i buy it ls6 or 409?

    she's real fine with a 409. The Beach Boys didn't sing about a 454.

I'd take the 409 everyday, especially if it's the original engine to the car, but if it's not original,I'd still favor the 409, it just looks more period correct and I'm picky like that...

The LS is technically superior in every way so it's a no brainer.

The 409 of course! There isn't a warehouse full of them lying around on pallets like the LS catalogue... and even worse the "new" Hemis.....

Take the 454 with the car and then sell ME the 409, it would look great in my 55! Just kidding ,keep the 409 especially if it's the original engine for the 63. Let him rebuild the 409 too, they AIN'T a cheap build.

Get both, drive the 454 while you build the 409.
