Sorry up front, I know this is a lame thread:) I have People asking me about or wanting my Vern Tardel "97" coffee cups but he hasn't made them in awhile..... but I see Jamco is making them and they look pretty close to the original. Cool collectable and I'm NOT affiliated with Jamco in anyway, this is just a heads up. I saw them on "that" auction site on a "pre-order" sale. Thanks

Definitely a cool cup. OTOH, there seems to be quite a bit of discussion about JAMCO as of late. I have no dog in the fight (perhaps a poor choice of metaphor from a veterinarian!), but think I'll drink my coffee from a 25 cent garage sale mug until if gets sorted out. Which I really hope it doers soon, because the Jamco stuff is pretty neat.

    Anything from Tardel's is collectable.

Nothing wrong with hedging your bets but an auction for things not available seems wrong to me.

Had an old friend buy one of these years ago. I asked if he really drank coffe from it. He replied "No, it leaks."

Vern started making the 97 Cup in the mid-80s(?) or so but would never keep up with orders.
Bill at Valley Ford Parts knocked them off with a much nicer and detailed piece (like the pictures above) than Vern's and sold, I'm guessing...1000s of them.
We sold hundreds at our store.

I still have one in the box and at least a Tardel and a Valley Ford used..
And I have drunk gallons of coffee from one for years without a leak.

  11. I bought one of those from Hot Rod and Custom Supply in Cape Coral, FL about 10 years ago. They moved the business to ?? up north.

    Think outside the box!
You can make a mold with the one you have.

I used to have 3 of those, but they all leaked. I replaced them with a single Holley 4bbl cup.:)

  16. The only problem with pulling a mold off the one he has is that he can't copyright it as his own. If he did an original model/sculpture he can then copyright it in his own name. Present day copyright law is good for a persons life, plus seventy years. It's only $65. to copyright a work of art. Although you do not have to register the copyright, but if you are taken to court, or your taking someone else to court over a copyright infringement it's best to have it registered.
I have 97 copyrights. I just registered my T Bucket 3D flames as my 97th. Will I ever sell very many? Who the hell knows, but just in case. My copyrights are not car related, and cover a vast number of different venues.
It could be the problem that's going on over the coffee cups is just that, a copyright issue. That may be why there not available anymore.
Here is a good example of a new buisness for someone that understands molding and ceramics. How many other original items having to do with Hot Rods could be made into a drinking cup, or as a collectible. Anything with HAMB on it with Ryan's blessing would be a big seller. Possibly Ryan is missing out on a new product line, but what the hell do I know I've only been doing similar thing for over forty years.

I got one for christmas from my wonderful wife. She bought it off Ebay from a name that looks very familiar and I THINK is a HAMBer. It is a VT. They all seem to be discontinued, but still listed at several sources. So maybe they are just temporarily not making them.

I had one in 1975, came from Vintage Ford Parts in Santa Clara...I liked it, first '97' I ever had that wasn't a 'firepot'!

How long have these been around???

The patent for the cup is owned by Vern and Keith Tardel. Making these without their permission is not a good idea folks.
