Im building a banger speedster/racer and was gonna put my fuel tank where you put yours. Question: are you going to install a fuel pump, or a primer? Or are you just depending on gravity?

The intake will be much higher than the tank so I will be using an electric fuel pump. I think even if you were able to use just a gravity feed you might want to stay way from it because of inconsistent pressure. With and electric pump and a regulator you can dial the fuel pressure in exactly.

Hey on your fuel/water tank, You might add space(1/2in), double wall and add lightening holes.
Same 'one piece' rolled top, just double walled from the bottom..

    Just a thought

I was thinking air space between the tanks, just a common top piece..
You might consider a heavy plate to protect the fuel tank from rear end or engine shurapnel(spelling)..

Plan for the worse.. built it as heavy as you can..
Its a 5 mile drag race and weight won't hurt..

  6. The "blast shield" like you describe is what I am doing. My water and fuel are above the tranny and rear end as well.

I think what I have decided to do is actually make two separate tanks, instead of inserting a baffle. What I am planning to do is make the tank like I originally planned the. When it's welded together slice off a piece and make that the fuel tank. This way it will look like one tank but would really be two.

Tuned up my aluminum skills and turned my foam model into the finished tank. I was a bit worried when I first started with the fabrication, because I have never had much luck welding aluminum but this went surprisingly well.
