If they have screw in dust caps they're early ones. What does the back of the spindle look like?

    yeahs its the 40's
early...because the hubs are outside the drums i think.
probably id the exact years if you show the back of the spindles.
    round vs square.

The backing plates look like my 1940. I have had 3 or 4 40 front ends and noticed differences in the drums, so i can't ID yours.

And if you are getting wheel cylinders, ask for the later ones with the bigger 1-3/8 front facing piston. Stock 40 was 1-1/4".

39-41 juicers have shoe adjusters, 42-48 are static

I have a set of 48's on the front of my car now , and they are smaller diameter and the hub don't seem to stick out as far as these do . I just want to get my parts ordered ! Lol !

Ill agree with that, the hubs are 42-48, earlier ones go in the inside of the drum. those are the ones you want for buick brakes.

wrong., its the other way around...

  11. The only '48 Ford brakes that were smaller than the 12" brakes pictured in the first post were the 11" F-1 pick-up truck brakes.

Actually the '39-'41 had the adjustable lower anchor pins and the '42-'48 had the fixed lower anchor pins as the plate in the picture.

The 39-48 Ford hydraulic brakes are all 12" ID drums.
The pictured drum/hub assembly is a 42-48 and so is the pictured backing plate.
