You might need to be more specific. All 3 of these vehicles are referred to as doodlebugs, but then again, I don't think any of them influenced hot rodding.

I think what is called a Doodle Bug in this particular thread has something to do with hot rodding or hot rodding has something to do with them. For all intents and purposes a speedster (cut down type not boat tail) could be considered to be a doodle bug.

I used to belong to a doodlebug club and they claim that a true doodlebug does not have a rear suspension. My creations couldn't be called doodlebugs because I usually used a Model A rear spring, and that's how Doodlrodz came about they're not really a doodlebug and some would say not a hot rod so they're a hybrid half doodlebug and half hot rod.

I always took the term to mean converted to a tractor like form. But i would still say yes, in some respects.

around here it was a car or truck cut up into a farm tractor type vehicle. lots with welded in rear difs and tractor type tires, I have seen them with dual transmissions giving a low powered of very tired engine lots of pulling power.

Doodlebugs are cool and imo another form of mechanical ingenuity and making do with what's around. Kinda sorta like the start of hot rodding huh ??

This bug was built in 1934. Not a farm implement bug, but more of a speedster. The difference in a bug and a speedster is that a bug has a shortened frame. Qualifies as an early hot rod, I'd say.

Doodlebugs are totally a hillbilly thing. They are tractors made otu of Model A's and T's.

They are the reason I'm building a modified! A doodlebug isn't good in the city.

I used to drive that thing from my house 4 miles into town for the Tues. night cruise in, cops used to give me a funny look but I had my slow moving vehicle sign on it and it was originally mfg. as a tractor so no plates needed.

 .. Dual transmissions; is also what I saw a lot of; that and 2 speed 3<sup>rd</sup> members Ruxtell in Model Ts and Columbia 2 spds in the Model A B & V8s.
