A "buddy" called me saying he found a great car for sale, to send a thousand dollars for down payment.

I sent it, a week later he sends email saying seller sold car and "he was gonna keep 500 in case he found something else for me and return the rest"

    What??!!

(Keep in mind I bought another car from this guy before and he is older so I "trusted" him .)

When I asked for entire amount back, he finally admitted he used "some" of the money to fix his truck and I'd get my money back mid Feb. He's making me out to be the grinch cause I want my money back in FULL.

Now, had he asked for the money for his truck, sure I guess, but to me spending someone elses money without that persons permission is t-h-e-f-t.

Is it me or does anyone else think this guy is living in the Bizarro universe?

It sounds like the "Great Car for Sale" was only bait, so you would have the blinders on to his true intentions. This happens a lot, not only among "Friends" but deceitful "Family" menbers as well. It sucks. They know people won't lend them the money otherwise........ I don't hand over any money unless I have the goods in my possession anymore.

I checked my email after posting this tidbit here and found that he had wired all the money back to me late yesterday-but again this after several days of emails and I told him he had till Friday or the Florida Attorney General was getting a ring and I worked it the other way leaving messages for the guy who allegedly owned the car. (had to research the seller online based on clues from the middlemans initial emails)

and he writes me quote: "consider our association over a-hole, up yours"

    Wha? Amazing.

I would have loved to hear the conversation between the car owner and this jerk..no wonder he coughed the money up.

Sounds to me like you had your own personal welfare recipient !!

He never was your friend, he was just looking for someone to steal from.

I've dealt with this from "friends" and family and found that the only way to make life easier for yourself is to block thier email and set your phoe up to say "Dont Answer" under the caller ID so you dont accidentally pick up.

Least I forget, with his reply as you stated above - BE ON YOUR GUARD,
One day he's going to call and give the old BS line, "I'm sorry man, things were tight I needed money why can't you just understand".

The more space between you and him, the better off you are !!

Take the $500. and hope he sends the other half when he gets his income tax check at the end of february. Then write him off as a friend...

  16. I'm really suprised there was ever a real car involved. Ya took it on the chin, but ya did get your money back. Remember this set up in the future.;)

i'll give you some simple advice, the words "friend" and "money" should never be used in the same sentence. nothing good ever comes from it.

If he was a friend he would have asked you if he could borrow some of the money before spending it.What he did if Fraud.Do whatever it takes to get the money and lose that loser!!
I just read that you got the money back. Who cares what he thinks about you. At least you know where you stand with him and he won't be bothering you for money anymore.

Take the five hundred that you got and feel lucky he did not need $1000. The other $500 is long gone and not coming back.

  23. "Consider our association over - A hole, up yours"

Well either he needs to have the last word or give you permission to end the association.
I suppose the feeling is mutual.

This issue is everywhere today. Those of us raised by parents who went through the Great Depression were taught to respect other people's property and that your honor was your badge. Today to many want something for nothing and feel anything that is out there is theirs for the taking. I have a plot in a community garden project and have given it up as people just drive along the road, see the gardens and help themselves! Values are all skewed to instant gratification and gain without pain.

we have a common rule....never loan money to friends. It ruins friendships and its never a good recipe.

The bottom line is that he lied about the car he found and stole your money to fix his truck....without notifying you; and now he has your money and spent half of it. Doesnt sound like much of a friend to me.

I would seriously doubt you ever getting your money back. You are now in line with everyone else he owes. He will have a excuse for not paying you back every time you contact him. You just learned a 500.00 lesson.

Really glad you got your money back! Been in a similar situation and it's very unpleasant to say the least.

the more amazing thing with this thread is the number of posters who do not read subsequent posts......just rush headlong into posting their opinions...
