I think the Dodge tube makes a pretty good stand in for the rarer Chrysler or Franklin pieces.

made a door bottom....it was my first time separating a skin from the frame.....way easier than messing with it all as one piece

That dash is great! The windshield looks good too, but I'd like to see it from further back.

Why are the springs moved to the outside of the frame rails and not under the rails like stock?

Narrowed body requires narrowed frame and then you have a full width axle to deal with.
The simple (and traditional) way to make it all work was to offset the springs outboard from the narrowed frame. :)

The Chevrolet 490 chassis had the springs outboard of the rails from the factory.

No, but it was offered to me quite reasonably by a VCCA’er in Ohio. I seriously considered it, but ultimately decided it would be too hard to come up with 490 sheetmetal for it to wear. I occasionally regret it, but I don’t think my wife would have understood.

  11. '24 and earlier Chevs used the same 1/4 elliptic chassis. Bit of useless info, Stu Hilborn's streamliner used a '24 chassis.

funny i looked at one of those yesterday upside down in a junk pile and was wondering what one looked like upright w/axles....it appeared very wide but would be awesome narrowed.

Thanks for the info about the outside mounted springs.

I figured you could gain a few inches of drop, but didnt think about the narrowed bodies.

It might be a good use for old F1 or Dodge axles of the same era.

Glad to see this thread wasn't a how-to on putting a 9" Ford rear end mounted on semi eliptics under under a SBC powered Ford hot rod.
Has anyone started a thread on four spring (semi-eliptical) race cars or hot rods? Seems like most race cars up until the mid 30's used a chassis with a leaf spring at each corner.

Back on the first Page there is a pic - "Chucks Two Man" that was my inspiration.
I'm using a pair of bobbed '29 Willys frame rails with parrelell leaves up along side the rails, a Chevy axle, Model A rear cross member and spring, as in line six, a 53 Victoria rear, a slightly larger than stock 27 T body and an unknown rectangular tank. I'm not pretending I'm replicating some thing from the 30'sor 40's but building a car that pays tribute. This will finish as a regularly driven road car.

Bit more work done since this but no pics at the moment.
    Cheers

I don't know why 3 springers arent more popular . Guys use quarter elliptic's in front and that seems like pretty poor engineering to me. I don't know of any car that used quarter elliptic's except front drive Miller race cars. 3 springers are safer than a suicide front end and don't radius rods or sway bars.

This is the reason I asked

I used the rear corners of a Model A sedan and some scraps.
