May be some one can give me some help I just lowered the front on my 1954 Mercury I used 2" lowering block , does any one have a suggestion the proper shocks , old ones are to short, sure looks great lower , its still cold in michigan & snow so I cant drive it for a few months yet! thanks Stan
'Lowering blocks' on the front. I presume they are squarish tubes or bar spacers that bolt between the lower 'A' arms and their bottom pans/spring pads? The NAPA dealer has a shock book, with length measurements and optional ends.
Hi Mike thanks for the fast responce, I will go to napa tommorow , and see what I can find , I bought my merc in San fran it was delivered in nov , nice rust free car , thanks Stan
They're not like leaf spring blocks. The coil spring sits on a pan that bolts up the the bottom of the front lower control arm. Space that pan down and you lower the car by the same amount. My 48 Chevy works that way and so does a buddies '50 Buick. Shawn
thanks Mike, got a set of shocks from napa & put them on today , longer & more travel than stock , seems to be fine we have snow now so I cant take it for a ride now , have a great day Stan
Monroe has a real nice info. sheet with all their shocks including overall size, travel and mounting style. That's how I figured out mine on my Merc. I think it's on their website.... Or someone on here may have the link. Sent from my iPhone using TJJ
Stan, Mine is a '51 Merc. I lowered it using Fatman dropped uprights up front. I went with Posies reversed eye springs and 3" blocks in the rear. It's pretty low, but not ghetto low. I used stock size Monroe shocks up front and some Monroe in the rear. I used the chart I mentioned to find my spacing and travel. Can't find the part number. I bought them at Napa.
