Can anyone guide me to a complete rear axle swap for my 55 F100. I've been hearing about Ford Explorer 8.8 rear axle swap. I will also swap to a Crown Vic front end so I want to do disc brake all around. Having somewhat of a modern undercarriage with the air setup I will be doing.

    Just a bad ass RAT

    Concerns-
    • Width(from hub to hub)
    • Spline fitment (if running I-6 with a 3 on the floor.

Air and RAT will not go over very well here. But the Explorer axle is a great option. The Crown Vic from a '03-'11 is too wide for the '56 and older F100's, but an '02-Back frame graft will work.

I've been researching this very front end the past two or three days. My research points to about a 66.75" hub-to-hub measurement which will severally limit wheel choices. The '02-back is about 63.8" which is much more usable in this truck.

I am building a 53 Merc 1/2 ton and will use a 9" from a 76 f-100 They are a bolt in. So Ibelieve that 60-80 will fit.

Isn't it from an 03-07 C/V front end...that is correct fitment with mod of course...Correct me if im wrong please. So your saying use 02 and older C/V for front? So 02 back to?

'57-72 F100 9" is a direct fit, minor bolting issues, such as shock mounting.

'73 on up are a bit too wide.

Explorer fits, but the pads are on the opposite sides, and are spaced about 1/4" off from the F100's stock width. (wheel bolt pattern different obviously, too)

I put an 8 inch out of a granada, and tubbed it slightly with s10 pickup inner fender panels. The rims were a reverse off set that actually is 10 inches wide with a 275/60R15, but they look kind of stock from the side view. Combination works real well.
