I am thinking 2.5". The current shell is full height. I tried a 4" but the proportions were off. The current version is a bit too low and has already met some some road debris to its detriment.
Are any of those packages for me...??? Hope there's something good in one of them for my Caddy... Ya shoulda had BIGGER packages in the truk...sorta dwarfed the bed...but the shot Michelle has chosen (I'm assuming you had nothing to do with the choice...!!!) works too... R- PS...NO on the gold...IMHO...!!!
Roger: Thank you! Gold has been done...to death. Still seeking the right color. Here are the pictures I have of the '63 era blue truck. Yes, Michelle picked. Domestic harmony, ya know! Those were the biggest boxes I had. Had a hell of a time keeping the paper on them as I hotrodded around town from place to place for these shots. The big box is full of ghost turds. You are welcome to them if you need some fake snow for your Cad display this weekend.
Very cool truck and a great video. Where in Colorado is it that flat? I grew up in Georgetown and you couldn't see more than a couple hundred yards in any direction (except straight up) before the mountains got in the way.
Northern Colorado on the Front Range...between Denver and Fort Collins. I also have some property in Western Colorado (Hotchkiss) where we plan to relocate some day. Hotchkiss is real Colorado, like Georgetown. The Front Range is like Los Angeles (my hometown). Flat and crowded.
Hang it on the wall and get some darts! Seriously, I'd go with a bright and darker color versus a light or middle value one. Blue, yellow, green, red, gold, orange... the better to see you with, eh, on the road to Grandma's house! To me, silvers, grays and light colors have the same "value" as the road or dusk / dawn skies and are kinda invisible to other drivers because they blend in so well with the surroundings. Like car cammo, especially on rods with tiny, low mounted tail lights. Besides, bright colors are just more fun! If you are going to drive it a lot, be seen! Gary
Some time I am going to have to trade some good will and see if I can prevail on one of the HAMB's Photoshop experts add some color to it. So many choices and so hard to visualize.
Great little truck - sounds great & even has a "man pedal" ... primo ! Thanks for the ride-along vid .
What a bitchen little truck. I think your truck would ne bitchen in blue flake. Love your engine choice and the painted valves covers. That polished fuelie unit is the bomb. Great job, sir. The Mile-High Sleigh gets my vote for name. Keep up the good work.
Hey Slime! You resurrected an old thread. But it is timely. I am finishing up some work in the Middle East this week and have been contemplating paint for that truck of mine. Have a copy of the 1970's Metalflake Corp. treatise "The Art of Custom Paint" right next to me. Lots of ideas there. Just bought a couple of paint guns. The fun will begin shortly after I get home. Tom
I couldn't help but save some of those pictures to my auto file, your truck is perfect. As for the color I would go HOK lime green candy or the Deep Purple because that beautiful red engine of yours would pop very well against it, as well as the gunmetal in the wheels and the whites on the tires. Just my .02 Batz
Not sure if this makes a difference in color choice. This is the finished bed. Natural Maple with Cherry, Walnut and Copper inlays. Trying to keep this early 60's themed. Been spending some time on Rik Hoving's (Rikster on the HAMB) website looking at vintage Larry Watson stuff. Check it out here.
Paint? I am surprised that the graffiti artists did not get it while you were photographing it!! Nice truck. Sounds great too.
Wow, this thread is an oldie but a goodie. The inlay on the bed is just amazing. How about picking a flake color to accentuate the bed, like gold, copper, bronze, brassy (or lemmon!) yellow, rootbeer, etc. with perhaps a contrasting solid color for the top as a two tone? Gary
