I finally scored a dual intake for my 330 hemi build and found this sizeable crack upon arrival. In fairness to the seller it was not there in the pics and I am hoping I wasn't sold an expensive paperweight...Is this toast?

A good welder can fit it no sweat. I would make some kind of fixture to hold that ear in alignment to the rest of the manifold , a head maybe. I would atempt that and I'm not that good of a aluminum welder. A bit of pre heat will help alot also.

Definitely repairable. Make sure the welder has done it before though!

cast iron or aluminum it should be easily weldable, aluminum would be easier to gaurantee I suppose, when I use a desoto manifold I remove the gen bracket mount from the manifold cause it steamlines the look and mount an alt on the pass side where the fuel pump goes, cleans up the engine and lets you show off the valve covers better.

once you remove the gen bracket you may find the crack has been removed.

After you grind the weld to match, take a Needle Scaler to the weld. It will dimple the metal and match the casting surrounding it.

  13. Very fixable by a competent welder, any actual welding house by you shoudl be able to do it - I wouldnt trust a Mr. Muffler type welder guy to handle it, but someone who has done a wide range of welding will be able to solve that without flinching.

  14. Get yourself a old cast iron piston ring and a person who understands how to pre heat and post cool cast iron. Use the cast iron piston ring for the filler rod, Yes its thruly fixable, TR

Yes. After I got certified in stick electrode arc welding, my instructor one day handed me a car rotor with a crack in it to weld up. He didn't show me how to do it. I knew it had to be done with a steel/nickle rod but wasn't told about the need to preheat it. Couldn't do it. I think he got a chuckle out of it. Ideally cast iron should be preheated over 1500 degrees in a furnace. If possible the welding should be done in the furnace. Most of the stresses and strains can be eliminated this way. Some experienced welders will preheat cast iron with oxyacetelene torch using a rosebud. Have a qualified shop do it.

If you braze it the iron won't get hot enough to recrack.

I've discovered I can fix nearly everything except a broken heart and the break of day, Just takes more time and money. Yes, I believe it's repairable. If you don't want it, toss it this way................
