History Anyone know anything about the McDonald Car Company?

I have a guy at work that is researching a car company called "The McDonald Car company, that was a short lived production somewhere in the 20's. I figured that someone on here would know.

There is a McDonald company listed in my "list of cars made", but it does not give the year(s) it was made. You might check with this group, the A.A.C.A. (Antique Automobile Club of America).

MacDonald Steam Automotive Corp, Garfield, OH, made cars 1923-1924

There was a connection between MacDonald Steam and Gearless Automobiles, which was headed by Duncan MacDonald, who was indicted for fraud and illegally selling stock in the Gearless company

Early cars sold well to circuses, who economized by cramming as many midget clowns into one as possible. Never gained much traction among consumers, though. As they were popular with circus performers, they were never taken very seriously, and eventually were laughed out of business.

Although the McDonald Car Company didn't last long, they did have two basic models.

The standard was a small coupe with a 110 cid flathead 4 cyl. At the time, these were very popular with mistresses and kept women, and were unofficially known as "floozymobiles".

The deluxe model was a 4 dr phaeton with a flathead 175 cid 6 cylinder. Despite strenuous efforts by the factory to combat it, the phaeton was widely known as "the big mac".

This reception by the public may have contributed to the early demise of what was otherwise a rather tasty car.

Just found a book that shows a MacDonald auto was made from 1920-1923 and a McDonald auto was made in 1923....two totally different companies.

 

My Dad who is 92 says he knew Old man Mcdonald. Lived on a farm......

Are you kidding, It seems there were well over a Million Served, but the factory collapsed when the Golden Archway mysteriously fell ..... The Camburgler was suspected

My American Car Spotters guide indicates they were made 1923-24 with steam engines. They had a Bobcat Roadster. Made in Garfield Ohio

 

I'm the guy that built that abomination. A friend of mine was Ronald McDonald and he got me the gig to build it. I'm not sure if I'm proud of the car or embarrassed. It is weird for me to see something I did on the HAMB.
