Ahhhh cool!, Ya made the right choice! And a very nice one at that. I drove my '30 coupe in stock form, mechanical brakes and all, for three years before rodding it, it never let me down once! I was in the model a ford club and met a ton of really nice folks along the way who bought my stock parts as I shed them in the hot rod process. Keep us all informed of your progress and enjoy Henry's Lady.

    SWEET CAR ....
We had some nice days to drive our cars for Jan.
With some luck we might find a day or two more.

Model A Fords, a disease they is no cure for, you will find that the allure of the stocker is a hard one to ignore, so plan your future carefully, it will make a bitchin ride either way, good luck and congrates.

Thanks! I'm thinking if they dont saltand spray chemicals on the road today/tonight then we might be out driving this weekend even though daytime highs will be in the 20's.

Here are the rest of the photos taken last night. Enjoy

Dang that thing is in amazing shape! The oil change slip on the door is tho coolest. I want an A so bad, but I'd have to sell my '53, and that would be really tough because it's my first old car and it runs like a top. But man oh man, do I want one!

haha yea. I totally understand. We love it...even if it rattles and vibrates around a lot in it's stock form. We kept our '50 plymouth. It has sentimental value to us and people at the local shows seems to really love it....so we couldnt part with it. We are very excited about this "A." I know a lot of the purists will probably want to strangle us for wanting to hot rod it but hey; theyre more than welcome to throw nice offers at us if they want to save it hahahaha :D:rolleyes:

Right now we're gathering inspiration and trying to get a plan together. I know we really want to drive it but if we're going to build it we might as well take our time makign it a show piece

as for him^^^ I'm usually a pretty kind and caring individual to anyone as long as you're not insulting and rude to me. In the most recent months we havent had an issues so I'd be more than happy to have a conversation with someone....even if we've had questionable interactions in the past. I can be civil and respectful....just dont call me insulting names and talk to me like im a piece of trash...that's when it gets ugly:D:D;)

I get the vibrate part all too well. My stock 32 Ply conv coupe was pretty as can be...but trying to stay out of everyones way in the same roads you will be on, well...it sucked.

    I finally let it go.

yep....we can't much drive it on any road with lines down the center :). Everyone drives like idiots and so we have to find a mostly back-road way in order to go places. one more reason to put a nailhead in it!

Did you or Joe run into "kevin" with his "new" stock A Ford woodie yet? He's on 89 heading out to the Mount Hope river. Anyways, he doesn't get bothered at all by what "is behind him" :D

If you have not seen it yet, you will. He was at my place last week with it. It's been fixed up over the decades by a long term owner, with whatever wood pieces he had laying around, so it ain't perfect;)

nope we havent seen him but im sure we will. It sounds pretty neat!it seems like no matter how fast you drive in an old car; people automatically tailgate the living daylights out of you because they automatically think old car = goes slow. We could be doing 55 down route 32 in the Plymouth and someone is up our ass the entire time...gauranteed. :)

so we are removing the fenders as we speak (its becoming quite the task). We are currently working on the passenger side and are discovering that the front of the splash apron is connected to the front fender? i thought they were seperate pieces on these cars? the fender appears welded to the front part of the splash apron. BUt when we look under at the driver's side; the splash apron and fender have bolts connecting them so they must be seperate? what in the world????

Any ideas on how is the best way to get the splash aprons and fenders removed from the underside of the body?

since the splash apron/fender combos seem to be mis-matched were likely going to remove everything for right now

  18. Thats when you plumb your oil breather pipe into your exhaust, and give em the old batman smokescreen. :D

Heres a link to cool kiwi banger stuff. The owner Graeme is an awesome fella.

Your fenders are mismatched. One was for the full length side apron, and the other was for the 2 pc apron.

The one with the half apron welded, that will be tucked under the cowl. Might have to take a body mounting bolt out.

the funny thing is that they both look identical from up top. the front of the splash apron has the crease separating the two but underneath the driver's side has bolts where the two join and the otherside...there's nothing.... the splash aprons on both sides are identical from the exterior (same odd dress-up trim)

They look mismatched. No big deal, IMO.

The welded one; you'll need to get it out from under the cowl. Loosen body bolts or remove the front one maybe, then try to wiggle it out. If it has old rubber isolating webbing, it might be stuck to it.

Have the A guys here look at the 2 L brackets with 2 bolts/nuts, and the very bottom of the firewall feet. Those don't ring a bell as being stock. If they are add-on, maybe the front of the sills were loose, and they fixed it? IDK

    nailhead/model A help
    Hello-

I am messaging you because i hear that you are the Nailhead guru on here. We recently purchased an all original 1930 Ford Coupe. It has the original 4cyl, original frame, etc. It is unchanged. We have a 425 nailhead with an sp400 trans sitting in the garage that we want to run in this car.

Is it possible to run a nailhead in this car with a stock model a frame? If so; any necessary things we should know? I have also heard that you might need to indent the firewall to fit the nailhead in the "A". Are there any steering issues?

We are planning on running an early bronco 9 inch rear in it.

Do you know of any good threads we should look into? any pics on setting a chassis up for this?

before we chop the car and strip the body...we want to do the chassis first. then do the body (which will be the easy part)
    thanks in advance

You can run a Nailhead with the stock chassis, you will most definitely have to box the frame, most guys end up going to a 32 chassis with them like Rolf did. You may want to take a look at his thread The Rolf Coupe build
His is probably one of my all time favorite Nailhead powered cars. You can see how much he had to do to the firewall there to get her to fit.

    What a solid ride

  30. Why not get a second frame stock or otherwise and build it up while driving and enjoying the car as is for now? When the new frame is ready, swap em out. Just a thought. I've made my own frame rails using 2X4 1/8 wall tubing. BTW I've got a 1928 Model A roadster project so we're still family, sort of.

    Doug.
