  2. Always have loved that grille on Jakes coupe, that is a great shot.

  3. That picture burned an ethos into my teenage skull. Something about having so much fun with cars that it pisses off the stuffy crowd:D

Giving credit where credit is due,.... I honestly credit Jake's Tub with the wake up call to build, In your face, traditional style authentic Hot Rods. And if you think about it,.. He had the stones to chop a top on a 34 3/W at a time when Hot Rodding had morphed into Street Rodding in a sea of "Resto-Rods".

Doesn't look like the California Kid here,... But Pete handed over $250.00 for this heap not long before this shot was taken.

Seeing these cars in their before state makes them more "real" and therefore seemingly more attainable. I don't think most of these guys really set out thinking their cars would write the history of hot rods and customs. Win a trophy or two, maybe. But to start a revolution or implant an ethos, as Tman said, I don't think so.
    Very cool thread idea.

You had to do it didn't you? Knowing that is about my favorite hot rod and you having (at least had) the basics for recreating it. It's somewhat like dangling raw meat in front of a starving dog. Oh well!! What are friends for if not to get under your skin once in awhile.............right? And to think I was about to move you up a couple of notches on the waiting list for my '32 5w. Guess that thought can be put on the back burner until better treatment is forthcoming.:D

    note to self...look up 'ethos'

    From Wikipedia,
Ethos ( /ˈiːθɒs/ or /ˈiːθoʊs/) is a Greek word meaning "character" that is used to describe the guiding beliefs or ideals that characterize a community, nation, or ideology. The Greeks also used this word to refer to the power of music to influence its hearer's emotions, behaviors, and even morals.[1] Early Greek stories of Orpheus exhibit this idea in a compelling way. The word's use in rhetoric is closely based on the Greek terminology used by Aristotle in his concept of the three artistic proofs.

It would be really cool to look into Pete's and Jake's photo albums. This picture was printed in Rodders journal,... I took a cell phone picture of it.

Bud Bryan's A is strangely perfect. Nothing really spectacular, just put together VERY well.

Never seen this photo of Moonglow, wasn't it first built in Duane Steck's driveway in Long Beach? Think he did the first version himself, including the top chop and shark-mouth taillights, later Watson worked on the final version...

  29. What a difference in the Moonglow. Who could picture how cool it would turn out, from primer to paint. That color shot makes me want to going cruising the drive in's on a summer night.
