i have had a couple people asking about the updates on my 53 chevy from the thread i put on on its chassis.
the link for the chassis build is here.
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=422563.
Since the chassis has been finnished, i put the body back on it, and tackled the 4 door chop. since the 53 has a large wrap around window that i did not care for, ( personal opinion ) i decided to go with a smaller window that i though fit the look and feel of kustom i am building. in order to do that, sail panels had to be made. i made each sail panel by hand, in one piece. thanks for looking!

Good to see a thread on this, not many 4door chops on these cars it seems! Keep posting pics for us.

southfork, i decided to use that rear window because it has a similar contour to the factory back glass the car came with. i cut the rear window out of the doner car, leaving a few inches of sheet metal surrounding the windown channel in order to be able to work the metal and trim if needed. the rear window was then put in place, and templates were made of the sail panel area. using a sand bang, mallets, and an english wheel i worked the metal until it took the shape i was looking for. clickos were used for test fitting to be sure that the sail panels were always located in the same place when test fitting. once they had a nice flow, i trimmed back the factory sheet, butt welded them in using a TIG welder. im not sure if that answers your question or not, but if not, feel free to ask!

Chop looks good. Just out of curiosity since you were chopping why not convert to two door?

I'd leave all 4 of those 4-door handes in place. looks good.

  27. Looks fantastic! You even managed to fix the mishap GM made when they designed the c-post on the 53-54 models! Great job!

I love these cars as chopped 4 doors. You rarely see them done right. I agree, I think you should leave the handles.
