the filler tube on my c6 transmission has been cut shorter and that makes the dipstick readings totally inacurrate. i recently had a hose to the trans cooler become loose. and lost a lot of fluid. how do i figure out what the proper amount of fluid to add is? once i get it filled correctly i can put new markings on my dipstick. i am thinking maybe pull the pan and empty the tranny of fluid (excepting the torque converter) and then adding the correct amount. (whatever that is) thank you.
If you know how much the tube has been cut just make a mark farther up on the dipstick by the same amount.
Failing that, I just measured mine and the tip of the dipstick sticks out 2 3/4" from the o-ring on the tube.
now THAT is useful info! could you do me a favor and measure how long your dipstick tube is? then i could simply measure mine and adjust accordingly then cut my dipstick at the right length. does that make sense?
you guys rock i measured mine as closely to the way you did yours and came up with 14 " then added the 2 3/4 and that got me in the ballpark
One thing billy , I would be alittle concerned that the dipstick goes x-amount of distance deeper than it was designed into the internals ... you probably should also cut your dipstick a like amount.
i have one more favor to ask of you. do you have a pic of the business end of that dipstick maybe against a measuring tape? i would like to see where exactly on the stick the add and full lines are so i can mark mine. (it got cut off on that end.) i hate guessing where my fluids are at. thanks buddy!
