No problem! We'll just blow it off with the air hose.

hey Jimi, it's very likely a local Swedish conversion, looking at all the custom truck bodies 731132 posted it appears there was plenty of custom motor body building going on there.
Hearses and ambulances were built from sedans like that here and in Oz at least. Some the sedan origin is harder to pick where they used the rear window roof section and end of the trunk lid for a 1 piece tail door ...which made for some novel hinge and springing arrangements in pre gas strut days.
Some looked the part but were built quick and dirty prone to rot.

Roadkill, MrMayo & EhDubya, THANKS a bunch. I LOVE the HAMB!:D What a red-letter day this has been for me here on the HAMB! It's always a HOOT when you learn some new things about your favorite make! Yowza. Ed's Memphian hint, then MrMayo's direct link to a specific Memphian article (excellent) held a TON of insight. Whoa, my head's spinning, and it ain't from beer. :p LOL.
On the original '55 B&W, the wheelbase looked stretched, but I could not detect WHERE. The links said in the rear doors, but it doesn't look like 24 inches longer than stock to me, as the rear windows were only 4 to 6 inches, at most, longer than the front ones, stock. But I'll leave that alone.

First thing, Memphis ONLY did this from 1955 through '61. So, right away you realize that the B&W photo of the '55 DeSoto ambulance conversion was just their first effort (lest, indeed, another company did it). The gut says Memphian, but who knows for certain?

It boggles the mind. Imagine what one of these ('55 or '56) would be worth today. And I thought the Indy '56 Pacesetter 'vert was the rarest of these two years.

Then, if that wasn't enough, MrMayo's pointing to the Coachbuilt link showed MORE suprises for a DeSoto guy. :) Talk all we want, but us HAMBers wanna see PIX, right? Well, Coachbuilt showed that a formal town sedan was built for '56, as well as a six-door limo. Stick me with a fork. What a day.

The stretched rear window and conservative mono-tone
paint and side trim can be seen on this '56 DeSoto. I
guess I'd call it a formal sedan, or what would once have
    been called a town car.

Awesome. Imagine what any one of these would be
worth today, if any survived, which seems doubtful!

  26. ;) ;) ;)
Your picture made me look at the website, and I quite like this one
