i am wanting to up-grading my original distributor on my 57 354 ind hemi, i see that pertronix has an ignitor for the dual point distributor, many people using them and are they reliable? or is there another choice, want to keep it looking old school. thanks for your input.

I've done well with Pertronix in newer distributors.

Pertronix is as reliable as it gets,.. I've had one in my 72 F100 since mid 80's. The entire unit hides inside your original dist.

they're fine, until they're not. then you're walking. if you have points and know how to deal with them, you fix/adjust/jerry rig and you're driving again. JMHO.

Get a late model Mopar 318-360 dist 74 up electronic. One of the most reliable and good voltage. get the advance curve re curved, add 3/8" to shaft. you cant go wrong.

I agree, I have a 318/360 stock dist. in my 354 and used a hot heads intermediate shaft. Fit like a glove and drives an MSD box with fire to spare!

Or you can send it to GMC BUBBA and have him do a proper change over to electronic ignition.

You could rebuild your stock distributor with new points and use it to trigger a Ford thick film ignition module. I did this on a Porsche and it works great. Lots of spark, and the points will last forever because they carry no amperage, they are only used to signal to the module. Just check for wear on the rubbing blocks every 20,000 or 30,000 miles.
