Hello. I'm a bit confused. I have this thing laying around in my garage. A guy said it's a Ford FMX and I think that's true. But for what is that bellhousing? I haven't found any decent info on the net. Maybe somebody knows it here. Thanks.
C= 60's 9= year in the decade (69) Z= Mustang P= Automatic transmission and by the looks of the bolt pattern I would say SBF is what it bolts to. Edit: Thats what it was designed for, but it could be from any Ford that used this tranny in 69 and up.
The bellhousing is for a 385 series (429 or 460 ci) Ford. The top 2 bolts are way to high for it to be for a Windsor. Here is a pic of another FMX to 385 bellhousing.
Ah, Thanks! That's what someone said, for a big block. So this is probably a trans from the seventies then? Or when did they start the 385 series?
The 385 series started production in 1968 and stopped in 1997. Like iamben says, the casting number says 1969, but that is when they built the mold, not the date that they cast the part.
Those are the engines with that bell pattern, but I suspect it was behind the 351M only, with the 400/426/460 getting the C-6
