Your story had red flags everywhere! It sounds like it could have been worse.
    You are a Lucky Man.

  2. Wow.......sorry for the catastrophe, you sound like you have a good attitude about it and show gratitude for being spared. Great that you shared the experience........this could save another from overlooking these types of dangers........again the outreaching power of the Hamb. :)

Sucks a big one, glad you're OK. I was a fireman for several years (have the scars to prove it) - car fires go quick - so much fuel in such a small area.

One of the guys I used to work with did taxidermy in his garage - he was washing out a duck carcass with white gas - knocked over the pan, fumes went to the water heater and WHOOF! Had third degree burns on his arm and both legs.

and the other really funny thing was when it was all said and done, a firefighter came and asked if i had smoke in my lungs, just as a took a big ass drag on my cigarette...wish i was a able to think straight and say something funny back....lol

thats terrible to hear, but it could have been way worse. You are lucky that all that was lost was the car, shitty I know but I am thankful you made it out with little more than some minor injuries and a hell of a story to tell. Good luck to you in 2012!

Thanks for the heads up. I will definitely set a new rule in my shop since I have a large ceiling mounted propane furnace in there. Never really thought about it. When it's on, four jets are always blowing flame.

Man I am glad you are alright, sorry for your loss. It is weird but this exact problem was discussed on a thread earlier this week about methods of heating your garage.

Hope it all works out for you and that 2012 starts better than 2011 ended for you.

  18. That is a hell of an end to 2011. Glad that you were not hurt worse and the car does appear to be saveable. Not cheap, but able to be saved.

Glad you OK. My gas tank was leaking on my ride and there was no way I was going to work on it in my garage. I took my ride to a shop and paid to have the new tank put in. What made me nervous was the puddle of gas under the car and the water heater near by the car.
Good luck on the rebuild and next take it to a shop it's good insurance when messing with gas.

Who is your insurance company? Shouldn't any loss be paid for, I mean, a loss is a loss.
