Projects I finally own a 33 coupe

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Harvey Mushman, Dec 30, 2011.

  1. I was planning to post a big long story about How I found this coupe 18 years ago but I had to pass and let a friend buy it, because my wife and I were just starting out with a baby and another on the way. But after Chris' post about his roadster, I didn't think I could do it justice.

Anyways. Fast forward to late October 2011 and just by fluke I call up a friend of mine (owner of the coupe) to ask him about painting one of my cars. We get talking and he drops the bomb that his coupe is for sale and he has had couple of offers on it. I almost dropped the phone and spit out my coffee. I quickly did some calculations in my head and told him not to sell it until I had a chance to look at it.

After a sleepless night I headed out to see the car. I was not sure what to expect because the last time I saw the coupe it was heading down the path to become a street rod, with Mustang II front end, coilovers, and many body mods. When we opened the garage I was expecting the worst, but to my delight the body had not been touched since I had last seen it. I couldn't wait to get it un covered and out in the daylight.

As we hashed out a price, I found that he was placing allot of value on the street rod chassis. I managed to talk him into swapping the frame out with one that was sitting under his 34 sedan. This dropped the price and the deal was done.

We made the deal on a hand shake, and he gave me some time to raise the funds. I was able to get rid of many unwanted parts and the El Camino that I was going to have him paint. I made a few trips out to pick up all the boxes of parts, hood, fenders and so on. We just recently brought home the biggest piece of the puzzle. I am now the very proud owner of a genuine Henry Ford 5 window coupe.

Here are a few pictures of what I got.

I don't know, it's in primer and straight, you sure that is HAMB material? Great way to end 2011, looking forward to the build. Bob

Deadly. Did you manage to acquire a nice grille and screen amongst the parts. Glad to hear you ditched the strodder frame. Here come a lot of days and nights tinkering and admiring. Good on ya.
