A few years ago I bought a 1939 Morris "8". Car was fully restored in England and shipped over here by the newlyweds that honeymooned in it. The husband was in the military and stationed in Alaska. The car was in S.D. and not winterized (can you say cracked block?) Anyhoo. Before I paid the agreed upon $2500 purchase price (shipping included!)- the car was in my driveway. Fixed the block with JB and had fun. Coolest car ever.

  5. I used to ride to high school with a girl whose dad drove us in a car just like that.I used to think those clear plastic tubes were neat because no one much could afford air conditioned cars back then.

The Fairlane in my avatar is my rarest. A 65 in itself is really no big deal, but I have yet to see another with factory buckets, console, 4 speed and 4bbl 289. I've seen some nice 65's, but they are all missing something. Either they are not a Sports Coupe, or they are an automatic or have a bench or something -- even the K codes! I guess in 65, most people who wanted buckets etc were getting Mustangs.

All of my old cars, they have made a million....
I do still have a 1989 Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Mustang (Restored) which was 1 of 17 that year for Texas.
I also have a 2000 Ford SVT Cobra R which is 1 of 300 cars produced.

I used to own a '37 Studebaker Coupe-Express pickup. In my opinion these were the nicest looking pickups ever built.

  18. Have to define rare. Some cars are hard to find, but they still made thousands of.

Went to high school in a manual trans '70 Gran Prix - they only made 327 of those.

I have or have had a '53 Buick Skylark (1700 or so), a '60 Chrysler wagon (1200 or so), a '58 DeSoto Firedome convertible (525), '58 Chevy sedan delivery, '32 Studebaker Rockne (one of 40 known of that model), '40 Roadmaster coupe (3600 made), '40 Nash Ambassador coupe, and probably others I forget. Have a '57 Dodge 2-door wagon, also, probably not super rare but my book has no breakdown for body style either.

While not particularly rare, my '50 Chevy is unusual in that the numbers on it are so low it seems to have been built on the first day of production for the model; the production month contradicts when most sources say they started building 1950 models.

Late 40's Buick Sedanette and a Chevy SSR.
Glad thier both gone now, as one barely fit into my garage and the other I made gone once I found out Chevy is no longer making or allowing replacement parts to be made for.

1962 Dodge Custom 880 2 door hardtop, one of 1761 built, sold to a guy from Belgium.
1957 Studebaker President 2 door wagon, one of 1522 built, sold to a guy from Utah.

  25. I've owned a lot of cars over the years I don't know that any of them count as rare, although some of them may have been considered oddities. It would be hard to run them all down for sure.

I've seen several of these, they keep popping up in Tucson for some reason.

What's rare is the GMC Suburban pickup, their version of the Cameo, I only remember seeing one of them.

But I've never owned either, the rarest car I have is my 61 belair hardtop, and it's not that rare (although I don't recall seeing any others in person in the ten years I've owned mine)

Well that was fun! I must have missed some. The ones in bold were totally restored or built by me. The others were driver works in progress and the first 2 were before I had a drivers license and never did see the road. If anymore come to mind I will include them. Man am I old!

I never thought I had a rare car, but then again I did have a 1959 Studebaker Lark flathead six convertible, with a column shift. Hmmm..when was the last time you saw one of them?
