    Hello,

After many tries at getting the right “look” for the 58 Impala, we ended up with the clean lines and simplicity of hubcaps. But, they were not the standard Chevy full size hubcaps. They were the small hubs with an additional beauty ring to make it look like a full size custom chrome wheel.

The local speed shops all had the popular reversed chrome wheels, but they cost money and the salary of a teenager in a minimum wage job was peanuts. There had to be a lower cost option to make the car look as good as it ran.

Spray painting different colors on the rims was simplicity. That gave a simple base to add small hubcaps or beauty rings or both to change the appearance. Even Moon Discs were tried to keep the look fast and efficient, but those took a back seat to the simple painted rim and small hubcaps. Of course, if money were not a big deal, then Halibrand Mags all around, were the order of the day.

    Jnaki

So, teenage ingenuity wins out over higher cost and possible midnight thieves. Who wanted to steal simple hubcaps, despite how original they were?

I picked up a set of NAMSCO covers and had them on my '55 Buick, modified by adding a "bullet". Sold the car, but kept the covers......

I'm using these on my '49 Cad, they are '57 caps with '49 ribbed center & crest that I repainted, and cheated a little with the surrounding color...to match the car. cadcap.jpg
