This is a really nice Century. My dad bought a brand new 56 Century in Newark NJ when I was about 5 or 6 years old. It was a black and white two door hardtop, 322 nailhead with 4 bbl carb. It was my first car when I started driving. It was a pretty fast car at the time for what it was.

I have a friend with a 55olds. He owns a shop specializing in old cars, but also works on new ones. Anyhow, in the 80s he was working on a customers 55 olds and his wife brought him the title.. Long story short the guy couldn't pay him for the work so they brought the title. He told them the car was worth way more than the cost of the work.. He got this fully loaded 55 olds 98 with power everything for about 300... It is two tone black and white. Just very cool cars!! Great thread..

Wrong side trim for a 55. Appears to be a 56.

This thread should really stay active. Lots of great stuff here.

My 1955 98. Stored in a long forgotten garage. Was a one owner car...till I got it!

    Hi
I have acquired a true barn find but have no title. 55 Olds super88 holiday hard top. This car has been in an old storage shed sitting for over 25 years, the car owner has moved away quite a few years ago but the new owner of the storage units is at this time building new storage units after a tear down of the old one. He told me I could have the car & all parts if I took them all out of there. So I did haul them home & started to work on it. Included in the storage shed was (4) 57 Chevy hoods, (1) 55? Chevy grill & (2) front fenders for a 55 Chevy, (1) driver side Ford 38 deluxe or 39 standard front fender, (1) 54 Chevy car Hood, (1) 51 ford car hood, (4) unknown 40s Pontiac fenders with (2) complete doors, (4) small block Chevy heads, (2) small block Chevy intakes & one has a carburetor, (1) Chevy small block clutch housing, (1) unknown automatic tyranny, also quite an assortment of chrome bumper, Grill, lights parts. Sorry got carried away with the incomplete list. I am not sure of the year these parts fit but have looked some of them up for ID. I will include some pics of my 55 Olds that we replace the plugs & wires put some oil in all the cylinders to sit for a week while turning it over with a ratchet off & on for a week, Changed oil filter & oil then poured some gas in the carb of the V8 Rocket Eng which did fire up & run smoothly with good oil pressure. Just having lots of fun now :) ~~Walts37~~:)

    Cool car.....BUT

I'd surely get the title and registration straightened out before you spend a dime on it. It took me 6 months and a pile of dough to get title on a new fiberglss car.

If the car has an intact body number or VIN it will be much easier but plan on some snags. Keep receipts for everything. Make sure there is name, address, phone number and dollar amount, taxes if applicable, that is legible. Taxes can be a real issue.

Thanks & I have stopped spending on this till I can check on a title I am in no hurry so I will work on it as long as no $ is involved. There was no money involved except the 3 miles gas money to get this stuff home. The Vin numbers are all intact They just wanted it out of the way of there construction. I do not have anything to prove it is mine so far so I may end up having to part it out the interior is all there & in great shape except the Steering wheel plastic is falling apart.:) ~~Walts37~~:)

My FIRST car, a 1956 Oldsmobile Holiday. Drove it the entire 10th grade, in 1963, at Santa Monica HS, Santa Monica California.

Four doors were NOT too cool back in the day............................

Different styles each year. They pretty much go with the different grille shape of each year. May be about to come up with something custom, but it will take some fitting............
