NICE! Always liked a 2 tone with silver and just about any other dark color.

Thanx a ton for the compliments. John at Big Johns Custom shop in VNC,Wa hung the quarters and moved the wheel wells earlier this year.I had him do the rust repair on the doors and he did all the blocking.
Jose from 5 Star Auto Body in VNC,Wa did the glass work and the straightning of the panels. And Marley from 5 Star shot the paint.
Very happy with the finished product.
We went with the idea that the car was "originally" '62 Chevrolet Nova Maroon Poly from the dealers lot. Then the "race team" added the silver 2 tone.
I didnt want him to cut and buff it.I wanted a NICE paint job and the car to be very straight. But NOT better than factory.
Ive seen vintage style race cars built that look too "Show Car" and it just dosent look right to me.
Now just gotta seal and paint the underside after pulling out the running gear to paint also.Paint the tin work inside and finish and paint the front stub and suspension.
Plus the FUN part. The lettering and signage.

So,3 tubes of body sealer, 4 rattle cans of primer and 6 cans of paint,I got the chassis and undertin painted. I still have to do the front frame, but there is a little more brackets and fab to do before its ready to paint.
The Wifey and I were really torn about what to paint the underside. You can't go wrong with black, but there is something about the Doug Thourley "Chevy II Much" that really does it for me. When I was in Pomona,I got to see the tribute car he built. It has a gloss grey chassis and it looks so good.
So I took a gamble and well...............................I think it looks AWESOME!!!
    Heres some pics.

I love it. I also love that between reading the first post in the thread and skipping to page 11 to see the current status, "my girlfriend" became "my wife". Great stuff.

That looks sweet but boy is that going to be hard to keep clean. I went with rustoleum gloss black on our Willys. After 11 seasons that doesn't look too good either LOL!!!!

Did the trunk today. You cant tell in the pic,but I also used some "trunk speckle".
Little funny story on myself.I foolishly welded in the passenger inner panels without painting the top of the wheeltubs that are inside the passenger compartment.
So after a while of head scratching, I taped and covered the quarter panels. And was able to use a brush on a long stick and slide it down the rear window slot and paint them.Of course you'll never see it,but I dont want rust and I would know.

My OT '67 is black. Its been about 7 seasons and I'm with ya.Exhaust soot, oil leaks, and tire rubber has really done a job on it.
That our biggest issue with going with grey.Looks like we'll just have to stay on top of it too.

Yeah, I see that discussion. I don't carry a '60s NHRA rule book around with me, so I figure "gasser" on the Internet just means "axle car" and don't worry about it. I think Hot Rod used the term "match bash" car for those.

  28. Shiny paint, what a novel idea. I'd like to see more cars with this level of fit and finish.

So,progress is slow.Lots of stuff has come up lately....but thats life.
Any way.Got the interior metal painted. Started to fit the trunk and find a gasket that will work.A factory gasket is too thick for the fiberglass decklid. So still have to figure that one out.

But this is a "street" car.And the Wifey does like a little comfort. So I decided to sound deaden the interior. I'm about a 1/3rd done.Working with this stuff is kinda fun.
