Gonna buy me a Mercury and cruise it up and down the rooooad

  1. Been singing that all weekend!! Finally get to be the happy guy that posts up pics of their new car.

I've seen a lot of sedans but never a 2 door hardtop Monterey. Headliner is shot and it has two small patches of rust, but otherwise the car is in great shape and is 100% original and complete. White interior, 312 V8, push button transmission, and chrome to spare. Can't wait to cruise this thing!!

Great find! Congratulations! I've always liked the '57 and '58 Mercury's.

Here's a couple pix from the Jim Roten Photo Collection on Rikster's Fotki of an early (two-headlight) '57 that show how cool these cars can be...

Nice and low with a little scalloping and '57 Olds caps...

Same car, a little more extreme now...

    Great!
My little brother drove one during college - pink & gray over white.
It was indestructible and you could throw a party in the back seat.

    Awesome car. Love those taillights

  19. Little update. Six months of work and she's just about there!! Outside of cosmetic just about everything mechanical had to be redone or replaced from sitting in the field. Took her out for a short (cold and snowy) maiden voyage. Still a few bugs to work out but otherwise she's moving under her own power. Feels good to have it close.

The Police Interceptor version of these cars really ruled the road in the late '50's. San Diego PD had four Mercury "Freeway Flyer's" and they ran Hwy's 101, I-5, 395 and old Hwy 80 (now I-8) and seldom would anyone outrun those Officers. Some had Y block 340's and others 362's. They all had several things in common, fast, good handling and a much improved braking system.

I learned to drive in a 57 Merc. Montery 2 dr. My folks bought it new. It was lavender and white, 312, pushbutton, with cruiser skirts. I drove it 'till '63 when I wrecked it. Still think they were one of the best looking '50's cars out there. Very rare to see a good one like yours today. I'll look for you this summer at the local runs.
