    Hey fellas,

I need to do rear brakes on my 53 to get it road worthy. Problem is, I dont know how to determine what rebuild kit for what car I need to purchase. Supposedly the rearend is from a 78 camaro, but I have no way to verify this. It is a 10 bolt. How do I determine what rear axle I have and what rebuild kit I need?

    Thanks!

If its a 10 bolt it could be 2 different sizes, measure the housing, and there should be some casting/ stamped numbers, Probably on the pass. side axle tube

Measure the housing in what manner?

  4. Just take one side apart and bring those shoes with you to the store. Assuming it is not real busy and the store is not full of assholes, they should let you try a few car examples until you find the correct ones. Wheel cylinders same thing.

And what will this information tell me?

I also have a 10 bolt rear end that i need to get a ring gear and pinion for but haven't a clue what it is out of. It measures 60.5" from face of drum to face of drum and has 11" drums with 2" shoes.

Any help on this matter will be appreciated.

A picture of the cover and/or casting numbers would help.

Pictures (several clear views of the whole thing) are much more helpful.
