  1. Someone already posted my photo of Group's dragster T, but here's my shot of the engine. 1979 Street Rod Nationals.

    I have a question...

Sometime ago there was mention of a Mini Cooper that was being raced in the 1970's that was powered by a blown 425 nailhead...does such a critter exist?

    Great thread this one...

There was a Mini Cooper that had a 215 Buick in it.

It was a really unusual car.

The engine was in the back, but it had Front Wheel Drive.
( and big & littles with the big wheels in the front...)

Not sure it would have come up on the HAMB, though.

It was a Road Race car in the UK in , I believe, the early '60s.

Thats amazing! I'd love to know more about this Mini!

Funny how the Buick 215 became the Rover V8.

  9. Yes, x2. Thats some seriously out of the box stuff! The second photo looks like rusty old paint, which makes me think the car must still exist.

E.J.Potter is one of my hero's....
Besides the great pic's you posted, he built an electric car run with an army Surplus generator and over a quarter mile of cables stretched out.
Scared the crap out of the track workers with all the arc'ing going on...
    It was outlawed... (ya think?)
Then he built 'Double Ugly'.. A dual Allison (single crankcase) pulling tractor. It truly was ugly, but the competitors groaned every time it showed up because he was very hard to outpull.
He built a newer 'vintage' version of the Widowmaker a few years ago.
    Great post!

    Yeah, its still around.

It was for sale in '09.

Here is an old article about it.

I bet that Mini would give the Tuner boys a thing or two to think about.

No picture of it as an altered but in the 60s there was a 1953ish:D Singer roadster running at Capitol Raceway Park in Crofton Md. I don't remember the class. It had an odd looking knocker bolted to the grill with 301 cast in it. I was young and asked him whats up with that? He stole it from the 3rd floor of a local apartment building. He said it was a 1/8" over bore 283:D It was probably a 327 though.:D That is the only Singer that I ever remember seeing in person. It was quick but ugly. It was built to go fast and not to look good.

Here is a couple I built in the mid-sixties. Both had the same 426 Max wedge/shortened torqueflite---the T done at age 18, the Healy at 20.

I just purchased this old Healey from a local speed shop owner who's shop went out of business. It had been sitting in his showroom for the past 30 years or so. He must have let it sit outside as the frame is now very rusty and needs to be replaced. It was originally set up for a sbc and a Turbo 400. I plan to put it on ebay before long. It is more of a project than I am up to. PM me if you are interested. Both pics are of the same car on the same day. One side is red, the other is primer. Tom
