put a corvette hp pan on my A been running it a long time used with a baffle best for the $'s spent think they are a repop item now??? hi$ item on ebay for originals.............pn#359942
Yes I have....a 5 inch pan is good A proper pick- up box is nice Pass side kick out from the pan rail min 2 inchs full length We use a rear mount starter when poss so a notch for starter clearace is not needed. But can't always A built In curved tray with louvers is good but not necessary..... More important to corral the oil and have a proper scavange There should only be about a qt in the pan when it's running if proper Remember the 12-14 in of vacuum from the oil pump will keep the oil down So after all this ramble I'm going to tell you that a trimmed scraper ( within .025 of every contour of the rods and crank full length of the pan rail) is a waste of time in this type of engine Tony
So here's the next question (related) ... cam/lifters are apparently lubed by "splash oiling" ... if a street engine (plenty of low rpm/idle) is equipped with a windage tray and a crank scraper, is there a chance that the cam/lifters won't get the needed oiling?
Not according to Al... I've seen a BBC dry out and ruin a flat tappet cam, but I'm sure there are a bunch of guys out there that have done it with no problems.
Your forgetting that oil is running down the sides of the lifter from the clearance in the lifter bore We also use Lifters with a bleed hole to pressure oil at the face.... But not always And I'm assuming if he is using a 5 stage drysump in a BBC He prob is using a roller ....and those are just fine also with or without pressure pin oiling.... But I do like the idea of extra oiling at the pin... Not because of idling but valvetrain loads at rpm Tony
