Not sure if anyone has posted this - but here goes anyway. This Murphy bodied 1931 Duesenberg Phaeton is actually a hot rod. It was at the inaugural Goodguys Del Mar fall show Thanksgiving weekend. The story I gleaned is that it has a 502 BBC and sits on a Ford Truck chassis with a split I beam front axle. Alledgedly this was a basket case body found in MO and built into a hot rod. The first clue that this may not have been stock was when I saw the Lokar shifter and suspected that all was not what it appeared to be. I am not sure that I would have the cojones to do this but....

It's not a Duesenberg. It's a reproduction fiberglass body on a ford truck chassis with a big block ford motor.I know the builders and it cost big bucks.Joe.

I might have the cojones to do this . . . but my brain wouldn't let me.

  5. Im confused as to all that fine interior work and no boot on the shifter? Great looking car

+1. It is very well done but it is no more a Duesenberg than the Ford truck I drive to work.

Btw, the easy tip off on the exterior is the 18 inch wheels. The first series Model J rims where 19 inch. These look just a bit "off".

If I remember right there was a company in WI that built those in the 80's (???) I vaugely remember being there while on a family vacation. Don't remember the town though.

It would be fun drag racing people and beating them in a big ole Duesenburg.

If its "Sitting and Rotting, it should be Slamming and Rodding.
I just came up with that. I have no problem with what anybody does with their stuff. Given that, we ARE caretakers and if it was complete unmolested and virgin, restore.
At least it is tasteful and not "Bigfootdoozie".

E.L. Cord said the Duesenberg is the undisputed "King of the Classics."

Now that's immortal. The epitome of a hot rod custom! Over the top!

unfortunately, some guys dont have enough brain power to over-ride the cajones, which is how we end up with crate motored Duesenburgs...

Oh no! Did some body build something slightly outside the boundaries of traditional?!?!? better crucify the hell out of it even if it was built well. We dont want any of that creativity going on around here...

At any rate it's a hell of a good looking car and it always amazes me that someone will fall for a car owner's bs story about how a car came about.

Well, no, actually, I would call a fiberglass body on a ford PU frame with a crate 502 a "KIT CAR".

I don't give a crap what you call it! This car is absolutely drop dead gorgeous. Who the f#*K cares if it is "real" or not. The guy that built this car has superb taste and the fact that he has a few extra shekels to do it soooooooooo right makes him a-okay in my book. I hope I get to see it some day...

There is one of those glass Duesey's for sale in Michigan, saw the add and wondered what kind of rod could be built out of it.

fake duesenberg body + ford pickup frame + 502 chevy= kit? really? I mean it's not like it's the 40000th 302 mustang with a cobra body slapped on top. I doubt he got his plans from teh interwebs for his 502 powered ford pickup frame fiberglass duesenberg. Get real.

    I think it's cool. I'm glad it's not a real Duesenberg though.
