Henry J project

Bought a Henry J last fall. Want to run it at the track.
It's a 51, built as a hot rod, not a track car. Has a Ford 429, c6, tubbed.
Needs a lot to get it track ready. For starters, engine build and cage.
More as I get into it. Steering column, seat, headers, and the list is growing.

I have a bunch of car nut friends that have been helping me out. I haven't
done anything like this in years and years.

Any chance you are going to raise it up any? or maybe "un-tub" it and make it a cool little custom? Looks way to 80's-ish... Gots lots of potential.

Nice, lets hope those guys stick around to help put it back together. I see the fuel door moved to the back, I've been thinking of something in that area myself.

nice looking car. Ditch the C6 if you are mainly racing the car. A glide will be worth a couple tenths.

It is nice to see a Henry J with the rear wheel openings still in tack. I like your engine combo. I have been working on my best friends henry for 30 years and he still get excited every time he talks about it. Good luck and have fun with your Henry

Looks like a solid car that's had a lot of work done already. Good place to start, and much easier than doing all the bodywork, and mechanical too! Looking forward to seeing where it goes!

Nope nice job done but they are for sure they are cut I have two sitting in the driveway stock. I love the way they look stock I have been debating on grafting a set on my shoebox.

Been a while, time for an update.

It looks like the engine is getting closer. Dyno tomorrow or Saturday.
Been a long haul, carnuts pulled it out last February. Different 429 going back in. Different block, heads, intake, headers, carb, well really everything. Lookin for around 600hp. That should make it go.

Transmission is being rebuilt. I’ll wait for the dyno before making a decision on the converter. Has new gears, locker, axles and I have a new shifter that’s going in.

Car has a new roll cage, fuel cell, fuel pump, fuel filter, regulator, new racing seat, battery box, steering column, some new interior pieces. Still needs to be put back together, re-plumb, rewire, paint the roll cage and interior.

I’m still thinking about a wiring kit. Painless, Rebel Wire, or Keep It Clean. Anybody have a preference or experience with these?

Oh, I also need to cut a hole in the hood and get an air cleaner or scoop to fit.

Can’t believe it’s December already, better get to work, 4 months to get er done.

Good to hear. I was aiming for Matt's Saturday but got sidetracked on my sons beater.. So did the Dyno go OK ?
I feel bad have a few things to do for him.
So this is cool , Phil and yourself with J's out next year. Cant believe how big the WNYGG deal has gotten.
Now if we can just get Some pipe racks and Altered people together to run a full 1/4 program. Then life would be complete..

I am also rebuilding/revamping a Henry J gasser racecar I bought out of Oregon couple yrs. back. Mine also has a 460/c6 combo. Hope to have it out sometime next summer. My Falcon wagon has been retired from the strip and is for sale. I know "carnut" Lenny pretty well. - Bernie
