265 six cylinder ,this thread has stirred up the experts that believe anything they read. Never heard of a 265 six banger. Just check the no.s on the back of block, drivers side to see what the block actually is. The no.s on the pad on the right front bank just infront of the head gives you info about what the engine was for.Back in the day some rebuilders would chage these no.s too. As Beaner said look on the back of the engine just to the right of center and that will tell you the month, day and year the engine was built. Now I am going outside and check the oil in my 396 V-6 Chevy. Got to love the Hamb.
depends on how you round it...but the 265 could be called a 4.3. The 4.3 V6 that chevy has been making for decades is a 262 ci engine
OK, Thanks for clearing that all up, I think. Looks like its a truck block, but has to be no later than '58 as it only has mounts on the front of the engine, no castings on the side of the block under the exhaust manifolds.
NO SIDE MOUNTS = BEFORE 1958 production year. 1958 and later production year blocks had side mounts. Love that Caribou. DD
I was just thinkin' if anyone ever installed a large journal Z/28 302 crank in a 307 block.... I need my meds.
Oh yea, a large journal 283, just what the world needs! Why not bore the main journals in a 265 and put a 350 crank in it? For those who want to build a traditional hot rod with a 305...
I see where this thread is going right now. Lets clear it up right away. There is no such thing as a factory 4 bolt 327. There is no such thing as a large journal 283. There is no such thing as small journal 350. There is no such thing as a small journal cast 327 crank. Not all 461 heads are "X" heads. All June of 1963 and earlier 461 heads are, in fact, X heads. Your 283 or 327 isn't a "Corvette" engine unless it has a factory Corvette code stamped on the deck. The casting number on your block WILL NOT tell you its a Corvette engine. I could go on but there are a few facts for everyone.
so, you're telling me that my factory 283 Corvette large-journal 4-bolt engine with factory tripower isn't real? Gosh, I paid a ton for it. The factory intake has even been signed by someone named Weiand and he even included a short note on there to advise me on how to pronounce his name.
