My stock tank is in great shape, I mite just use that with a flat v8. Not the biggest tank but I think it'll do fine.
i used a tank out of a 50 ford truck , narrowed to fit . the contour follows the angle of the seat back. it fits between the seat and the trunk and you lose no trunk space
Here's a link to the tank I'm probably using in my '29 Roadster. My buddy has this same tank in his '31 Coupe and it fits in there pretty nice since he has a finished trunk and only the filler neck is visible when he opens up the deck lid. RCI tank on a 1x2 frame. Boxes on each end are for a pair of Type 51 batteries. Currently plumbing in a shut off valve and a vent line mounted on rear bulkhead. Hole in trunk floor allows emergency access to trunk latch from underneath. Canuck
I used the stock tank in my coupe,all i did was is put a creamer on the inside to make sure it was silled.I was happy with the outcome
Wasn't it the Pinto that had problems with tanks mounted in the rear most area with rear end crashes? Just saying it could happen.
It wasn't because the gas tank was in the rear of the Pinto that caused the problem (many cars have rear gas tanks). It was due to poor engineering where during a rearend collision a piece of the frame would puncture the tank and cause a fire. I also have a 65 Chevy truck with the gas tank right behind the seat if that makes you feel any better!
Who makes the 32 tank to fit on the Model A. I have a rumble seat and want to keep it, don't have the stock tank.
I'm using the stock tank in my 29 as well...but planned to relocate to the trunk area. Doesn't having 10+ gallons of gasoline directly in front of you make you a little nervous?
I used a 20 approx, gallon square remote tank off of an Allis- Chalmers 700 series wheel tractor, fits rite behind the seat, with enough room to fit a batt along side, used a Nova fill spout, works great and still leaves trunk room.

My coupe is getting the stock tank, my roadster pickup an aluminum custom tank in the bed. To do it over again, both would have stock tanks. Why would it concern you to have the tank in front of you? There is so much surrounding sheet metal around it, I have always thought of the stock "A" tank as being one of the safer places to put a tank. the only thing I would worry about would be a roll over situation, and if you get upside down in an "A", trust me, there are bigger things to be concerned with.
