X2 does it bolt in, or if not how did you get it to fit? Awesome!

    Thanks, Murch.

Just though I'd throw mine in now that it's getting too cold to drive it! 1963 F100 unibody, 67' Impala 327 with Corvette heads, 350 auto, 9" Ford, and some kind of tubular Mustang IFS. I just bought the truck in the spring in WI. The previous owner had passed away, but I liked the little truck. I'll be adding a few of my own touches soon, but will mostly be leaving the truck as-is. If you're in SE MI, you'll probably see it cruising a lot more next year!

Getting ready to start back on this one. 429 Cadillac powered. Took two days to read through the thread.

  13. I heard that. Seens most everything you see has a chevy in it. I'm not knocking chevy's, I just see too many of them.
Who am I to talk? I pulled a chevy out of my truck & gave it away, then put in a chrysler:confused: Gas Hog!!! Next build is with a small block ford.

I bought it that way. And for now it' s a good running truck. Just not willing to mess with it. But I have thought about building a 289 or 302. BTW, nobody wants that Ford engine more than me. I work at Ford and hate having to answer that dreaded question. I just keep the hood closed when I take it to work!

  15. Yeah I know. My brothers looked at my 56 when I got it & called it FORCHEV. Week later it was out & gone along with the 12 bolt rear end & the turbo 350 trans...Just gave it away. That was okay, went to a guy who was building a 48 chevy.

No chevy, nailhead, olds or caddy, nor a mopar....strictly Ford from the start.

I hear ya. My '51 F1 came with a 350/350 and I intend to go back to a Ford myself. I really want a Y-block or flathead but I have a 429 with the early heads on the engine stand just begging to be rebuilt. Gas mileage is an issue though so I'm not sure which route I'll take. The '56 in my avatar had a 1970 429, toploader and 9 inch with 3.73s, was a blast to drive but only got around 10 mpg.

I may be pulling the 302 in my 65 to put in my 83 F150 daily and drop the 460 I'm getting as extra with the daily back in the 65. I'm nuts over big block Fords, this will be the third 460 swap I've done.

I've made some progress and thought I'd share.

This was about three months ago.

Brought it back home and it looked pretty much exactly like it did when it left... so I cheated and used a pic from last year.

Here's the engine. Brand spanking new, never fired. Today's the day though, I've been sick for a week... I don't care if kills me, it's makin some noise today!

With 3.50's and a c6, my cruise season averaged around 16 to 17 mpg, 10 to 12 in the city and at times 22 on the highway, and that's with all 8 barrels open, no progressive linkage.

Have since installed a 5-speed hence hope to see higher numbers for the highway. At 70, engine was pulling 3000 - 3200RPMs, now with the .64 overdrive gear, engine pulls 1600 - 1700RPMs at that speed.

But then I din't build it for the "economy" runs.

Nicely done frame, capable of handling any high horse engine.

As you may know by now, I'm running a 383 Mopar in my 56 with 3.23 gear & 727 trans, 27 inch tire. Getting around 12 mpg at 65 mph at 2875 RPM.

This next build is another 56, but with a fuel injected 5.0, T-Bird IRS with 3.08 gears, 5 speed .67 overdrive, & 27 inch tire. Stats are 65 mph 1870 RPM. Looking at around 20 to 22 mpg I hope.

  25. Saw your truck at Sins Of Steel. Very nice ride, make sure you bring it out next year. Maybe we will run into you at some cruise nights. I am here in Livonia.

Bingo! Love the Nailhead. I see you have three pedals with the Nailhead, are you running a manual trans with that or did you just leave the pedal in there

Johnny, good question. You're right about some of the trucks that use dropped springs look fine, some are really notably off. Its not necessary to use the down and forward springs but using them does make it look that much better and more symetrical. Especially if you use a dropped axle in combo and drop it lower. If the wheels are tucked closer to the rear of the fender, the lower it is will only enhance that.
