that is normal. Starter is independant of ignition.

crank all you want, but if you don't hit the button correctly, it won't fire.

kinda like sex...or do we need to school you on that as well?

Yep, kinda like sex. My wife always wondered why I spent so much time in the garage with Bel.. Now like bobwop says, that's normal for your Chevy. Just be sure the key is straight up for ignition to be on. That is the position for spark. The only position for starting the motor.

sorry Chad, but no wifey for this guy.

and I would be concerned that you would need somebody to offer you instructions on something so very simple to finger out for yourself.

    good luck!

just listen to bobw .. He is more well ..believable...
The oil line can be replaced with a grease gun hose or plugged with pipe plugs for a while

look for gas leaks now that fuel is in the carb

    good luck

Well got a new battery for the 51 today, along with new cables. I hit the salvage yard for a new radiator hose and found me a Olds Bravado rear that is 3.73 posi unit. Gonna snatch it up for a later date when I install a sbc in this baby! Got the new steel line for the oil filter and need to put it together. Had a migraine today so I'm resting the rest of the evening, but stay tuned as It should be running tomorrow.... With video!!!!

Then Friday, Mike in Tulsa is going to help me rebuild the carb when I go up there! So I think things are coming around on it!!!

    Yea thanks Bob!!!

Dan... I've had a migraine all week, it's finally letting up. I thought it was just a regular headache but it's kept me down all freakin' week! Then it started raining yesterday, should be gone by the morning, so I'm going to run over make the new oil line and fire it up, then taking the carb off and heading up to Mike's to rebuild it and go check on a early 50s chevrolet suburban!! :D

Bryce... don't let these other knuckleheads suck you in on the not so funny jokes!! :D

  20. oh a headache . its only just begun ...
now if ya had a wife she would have offered a midol by now ...

    i'll wait ...

Wow, I just saw this thread, and that car is badass!! Good job so far, I hope you get your oil lines and carb issuies sorted out, looking forward to the video.
I also dig the stance you photoshopped.

Thanks guys! I've had to put her on the back burner for a little while. But I did get the carb rebuilt (Thanks Mike in Tulsa) and put a new coil, points, battery, and cables on it, but I still don't have any fire... I'm thinking I might need to get a new regulator?

I see your driver side door has the same dent mine does, must have been a popular mod back in the day. I dream of a day I can get my hands on something that solid to start with for once.

Yea unfortunately the door check straps on the driver side are made of metal that breaks the first time the wind grabs the door! Almost all the ones I've seen have had the same problem!!
